Head Coach

Flanagan joined Syracuse in March 2008 as women's ice hockey head coach and over the following eight seasons has built the program from an upstart to a perennial contender in the CHA. In his eighth year at the helm, Flanagan led the Orange to its fifth CHA Championship Game appearance, guided by a league-high five student-athletes to all-conference accolades.  In 2015-16, Melissa Piacentini was named the CHA Player of the Year while Nicole Renault was named CHA Defenseman of the Year. Under Flanagan, Piacentini became the first player in program history to crack 100 points, recording a program-high 112 points, 53 goals and 59 assists.   Joining Renault on the CHA First Team was sophomore Stephanie Grossi, who finished the regular season third in the CHA and first on Syracuse with 33 total points. After receiving a BYE in the CHA Tournament, Syracuse defeated Penn State in what became the longest game in both program and CHA history. The Orange defeated the Nittany Lions 3-2 in triple overtime in a game that lasted a total of 116 minutes, which is the eighth longest game in NCAA history.  In his seventh season as head coach, Flanagan guided a league-high six student-athletes to all-conference accolades and was named CHA Coach of the Year for the third time. In 2014-15, Akane Hosoyamada and Melissa Piacentini were named to the All-CHA First Team, Nicole Renault and Jenn Gilligan picked up second team honors and Alysha Burriss and Stephanie Grossi were added to the All-CHA Rookie Team. Grossi also was named CHA Rookie of the Year. Flanagan also reached the century mark in wins at Syracuse, notching the program's 100th win in program history on Feb. 14, 2015 vs. Lindenwood. Flanagan coached the squad to its best record in program history, 20-14-3 in 2013-14. In addition, Flanagan also reached a career milestone, becoming the ninth all-time winningest coach in women's college hockey with 332 wins including 102 at Syracuse. Four Orange were named to the All-CHA team for their regular season performances. Nicole Renault earned a spot on the first team while Melissa Piacentini was voted to the second team. Jessica Sibley and Larissa Martyniuk each earned All-Rookie honors. In 2012-13, Flanagan coached the squad to a 20-15-1 record and its highest finish in the CHA at second place with a mark of 13-6-1 in conference play. Flanagan also reached a coaching milestone, earning his 300th career victory and 70th at Syracuse. Flanagan is 351-212-54 overall in his coaching career and has recorded a 121-129-30 record at Syracuse. He is 63-57-21 in the CHA. Flanagan was named the 2013 College Hockey America Coach of the Year for the second time in his career. During the 2012-13 CHA tournament, the Orange advanced to its third title game before falling to Mercyhurst, 4-1. Akane Hosoyamada and Kallie Billadeau garnered all-conference first team honors in 2013 while Nicole Ferrara and Margot Scharfe were named to the second team. Nicole Renault was named to the All-Rookie team. Scharfe was named the CHAs best defensive forward for the second-straight year while Hosoyamada was honored as the best defenseman. Flanagan is one of the most recognized names in collegiate ice hockey, leading St. Lawrence to four consecutive NCAA Frozen Four appearances which places second among active coaches.  The 300-Club With a 4-1 win against Lindenwood on Feb. 27, 2013, Flanagan became just the sixth active coach in womens ice hockey to win 300 career games. The win against Lindenwood was also his 70 th as the head coach of the Orange. Coaching the 'Cuse After just six seasons, Flanagan and the Orange have made a name for SU ice hockey and are contending with the nation's best. Syracuse finished the 2009-10 season with an overall record of 18-17-1 and its first post-season victory in program history with a win against Niagara in the semifinals of the CHA tournament, doubling its win total after posting a 9-16-3 record in its inaugural season in 2008. Flanagan has recruited an all-star roster including Syracuses first Winter Olympian, Stephanie Marty, who competed for her native Swiss National Team at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver and the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, where she helped earn Switzerland's first-ever medal in women's hockey. Marty's impressive work on and off the ice during the 2009-10 season earned her Second Team All-CHA, CHA All-Academic and ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors. The 2010 College Hockey America (CHA) Coach of the Year led the Orange to its second consecutive appearance in the CHA Championship game in 2010-11, finishing the year with an overall record of 14-16-6. Flanagan's squad boasted three members with CHA honors in 2010-11 led by Isabel Menard, who picked up her second straight selection to the All-CHA First Team list. Defender Akane Hosoyamada and goaltender Kallie Billadeau were both named to the CHA All-Rookie Team, making SU the only team with multiple student-athletes on the list. Success at St. Lawrence Flanagan was the head coach for the St. Lawrence womens ice hockey program from 1999-2008. He led the Saints to the womens NCAA Frozen Four Championship five times in his nine-year tenure, tying him for the most appearances in the country. Flanagans four-year run (2003-07) of Frozen Four appearances is also tied for best in college hockey. The Canton, N.Y. native accrued a 230-83-24 record with the Saints. His .692 win percentage is the sixth-best in the nation among active Division I coaches. Flanagan also has the sixth-most victories among active coaches. While at St. Lawrence, he directed his fleet to the ECAC Hockey Tournament in each of his nine years. Flanagans 2003-04 team shared the ECAC Hockey regular-season crown and the 2005-06 team won it outright. The 2005-06 Saints became the first squad in any sport at St. Lawrence to win more than 30 games in a season. Accolades for Accomplishments Flanagan made his presence felt in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) hockey league. After Flanagan led St. Lawrence to its first National Championship game in only his second year, he was awarded the 2000-01 ECAC Hockey Coach of the Year and the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) Coach of the Year. Flanagans student-athletes have garnered numerous awards, as well. Behind the Saints bench, Flanagan generated 10 All-Americans, three ECAC Goaltenders of the Year, one ECAC Player of the Year, two Sarah Devins Award Winners and more than three dozen ECAC All-Stars. He has coached two Olympians and several members of the Canadian National team. National Prominence Flanagan was an assistant coach for the U.S. Womens Select and National teams that competed at the Four Nations Cup in Sweden in November and won the gold medal in summer of 2008. Flanagan also assisted the U.S. Womens National team to the World Championship in April held in Harbin, China. Flanagan was on the national coaching staff with Ohio States Jackie Barto and Plattsburgh States Kevin Houle. Introduction to Hockey A 1980 St. Lawrence graduate, Flanagan was a defenseman for the Saints, serving as a team captain his senior season. He began his coaching career as head coach at Canton High School in 1982. Prior to the 1988 season, Flanagan joined the St. Lawrence mens staff as an assistant coach and helped the Saints to two ECAC championships and NCAA appearances in 1989, 1992 and 1999. Flanagan earned his masters degree in education from St. Lawrence in 1992. Flanagan and his wife, Sharon, reside in DeWitt with their three children, Shannon, Brendan and Connor.

Brendon Knight

Associate Head Coach

Knight joined the SU program after a six-year appointment as the head coach of the Hamilton College women's ice hockey team prior to the 2012-13 season. "We are very excited to have Brendon join our program as he brings a wealth of experience with him from his time at Hamilton and Potsdam," said head coach . "He is an excellent teacher of the game, a very knowledgeable recruiter and possesses an outstanding character." In his time at the helm of Hamilton College's program, Knight guided the team to 57 wins and six postseason appearances. In 2011-12, Knight coached a 2012 NESCAC women's ice hockey all-conference team selection as well as a four NESCAC winter all-academic team members and a NESCAC winter all-sportsmanship honoree. In 2010-11, Knight coached the team to 11 victories which was the Hamilton's highest total since 2002-03. Knight coached the NESCAC rookie of the year in 2009-10, and Hamilton ranked third in the conference in combined special teams. Knight mentored the program's first All-American and its first NESCAC player of the year in 2008-09. That year, Hamilton players led the NESCAC in goals, points and power-play goals. In his debut season at Hamilton, Knight registered 10 victories, good for a fourth place finish in the NESCAC standings. Knight also won his first postseason game that season in the first round of the NESCAC championship. Knight began his time at Hamilton as an assistant men's hockey coach for the 2005-06 season. Prior to arriving at Hamilton, Knight was an assistant at his alma mater, SUNY Potsdam, from 2002 to 2005. He helped lead the Bears to three postseason appearances and was responsible for the majority of the program's recruiting duties. He helped recruit a conference rookie of the year and a conference player of the year. Knight played three seasons at Potsdam from 1998 to 2001. He scored 21 goals and registered 43 assists in 66 career games. The Bears reached the conference finals in 2000 and 2001. Knight lettered both seasons and was selected to play in the 2001 East/West Senior All-Star game. He earned a spot on the SUNYAC Commissioner's List for athletic and academic success that same year. Knight went on to play in the English National Premier League for the Isle of Wight Raiders during 2001-02. He scored 27 goals and assisted on 40 others in 44 games. Knight played in the Central Junior Hockey League for the Cornwall Colts Junior "A" from 1996 to 1998. He finished in the top 10 in scoring both seasons and played in the league's all-star game twice. Knight was a second team all-league selection his final season. He ended up with 153 points in 120 games. Knight was drafted by the Beauport Harfangs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League at 16 years old. Knight graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in business economics and a minor in French from Potsdam in 2001. He completed his master's in instructional communication and technology from the school in 2005.

Alison Domenico

Assistant Coach

Domenico joined the Syracuse ice hockey staff as an assistant coach in 2011. Domenico will assist Flanagan in all aspects of the ice hockey program as it prepares to compete against the nation's elite in its sixth season. Domenico comes to SU from Ohio State University, where she was an assistant coach with the Buckeyes in 2010-11. During her time Columbus, Domenico provided on and off-ice instruction with the Buckeye women's ice hockey team as well as video analysis and day-to-day hockey operations. Her responsibilities also included budget management for recruiting trips, prospective student-athlete visits, home meals and team banquets. Domenico received her bachelor's degree from St. Lawrence University in 2009, where she played four seasons for the Saints. She played in 153 career games, the sixth-most in St. Lawrence history, and is tied for first on the Saints all-time records list for career power play goals (29). During her career, she played in four ECAC Tournaments and four NCAA Tournaments, reaching the Frozen Four in 2006 and 2007. As the captain during her senior season, Domenico played in all 38 games, scoring 16 goals and adding 21 assists. She was named the ECAC Defensive Forward of the Year as well as earning ECAC Second Team All-League honors. joined the Syracuse ice hockey staff as an assistant coach in 2011.
