Don Taylor
Head Coach
Taylor University men's tennis program in 2016-2017. During the past 21 seasons, Taylor has led his squad to a combined 225-177 regular season record, five Crossroads League regular season championships and four CL Tournament championships. Taylor's teams have qualified for the NAIA Region 8 Tournament six times with one Region 8 Championship and have qualified for the NAIA Regional's three times. Taylor has been named Crossroads League Coach of the Year three times. Taylor earned his bachelor's degree from Lock Haven University in health and physical education and his master's in exercise physiology from Springfield College in 1979. In 1992, he completed his doctorate in higher education at Penn State. From 1979 through 1991, Taylor taught at Lock Haven University. While at Lock Haven, he spent nine years as an assistant basketball coach and also served as an assistant athletic director for three-plus years. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Taylor is also a professor of Physical Education, Human Performance. A certified USPTA instructor, Taylor continues to play competitive tennis. Sixteen of his former players are or have been teaching or coaching tennis. Taylor and his wife, Joyce, who works in the development office at Taylor, have two grown children and four grandchildren. The couple resides in Hartford City, Indiana. The 2016-2017 season is the second for John Noble as an assistant coach for the Taylor mens tennis program. Noble is a 1998 Taylor graduate, earning his bachelors degree in sociology and Biblical literature. During his time as a student at Taylor, Noble played tennis for the Trojans under Coach Taylor, contributing in singles and doubles matches. After his time as a student-athlete at TU, Noble coached tennis at Concordia High School and Canterbury High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Noble then went on to obtain his masters degree in seminary from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, working as a teaching pro at the Boston Sports Club in Lynnfield, Massachusetts and at Bass River Tennis Club in Beverly, Massachusetts. Noble earned his Ph.D. in near eastern languages and civilizations from Harvard University in 2013. In addition to assisting the TU tennis team, Noble teaches Bible and religion at Huntington University. Noble and his wife Abi have three children. The 2016-2017 season is the second for Wes Young as an assistant coach for the Taylor mens tennis program. Young is a 2013 Taylor graduate, earning his bachelor's degree in Professional Writing. During his four years as a student at TU, Young played tennis under Coach Taylor. He played No. 1 doubles for all four years, No. 2 singles for three years and No. 1 singles in his senior season. Young has worked as a Tennis Teaching Professional for the last three years, most recently as the Junior Program Director for Birmingham Tennis Academy in Birmingham, Alabama. In addition to assisting the tennis program at Taylor, Young is in the sales department for Chick-fil-A at the Hamilton Town Center location. Before assisting with tennis at TU, Young has helped assist the tennis teams at Huntington University, Canterbury High School, Zionsville High School and Peru High School. Young and his wife Erinn, who is also a Taylor graduate, reside in Upland with their dog Jake.
