Brian Quinn
Head Coach
Quinn, a four-year letterwinner at Temple (1987-90) and a professional golfer for 16 years, is in his 10th season as head golf coach at TU. Quinn won 17 professional tournaments and played on the Asian PGA, South African PGA and South American PGA Tours. He is currently is the director of instruction at the BQ Golf Academy in Conshohocken, Pa. In just over a season and a half, Quinn, who has guided the Temple to five tournament titles prior to the 2016-17 season, has quickly returned the Owls to a program to be reckoned with at the conference and regional level. In his first fall campaign (2007), Quinn directed the Owls to a pair of second place finishes at the Bucknell Invitational and Mount St. Mary's. Other highlights from the 2007-08 campaign included the program's first-ever CoSIDA Academic All-American and Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar. Three players won a combined seven Atlantic 10 weekly awards, including a total of five Rookie of the Week honors from Sasha Bozic and Andrew Mason. Quinn followed up that success in 2008-09 by leading the Owls to their first tournament win since 2005 with a first place showing at the 15-team Big 5 Invitational. The Owls also placed fourth in The McLaughlin and sixth in ODU/Seascape Invitational. In the spring, Quinn guided his Owls to their best place at the A-10 Championships since 2002, finishing fourth. Two TU golfers, Andrew Mason and Eric Plisko, earned all-conference honors, marking the first time that two Temple players received that accolade since 2003. Plisko and Kevin Busteed would later be named to the PING all-region team. After the fall of 2008, Temple was ranked as high as it has been since 2003-04 in the GolfStat rankings, thanks to Quinn's tutelage. In the spring of 2008, Quinn's charges fired their best 54-hole score at the Atlantic 10 Championship since 2002 (877, +13) to finish 7th. The score was 18 strokes better than Owls recorded in 2007. Mason, who finished his career as a three-time all-A-10 performer, would lead the Owls to another fourth-place finish as a senior in 2011. The Owls would also win their second tournament under Quinn, taking the 2011 URI Spring Invitational. He has also improved the team's scheduling as the Owls now play in the prestigious Adams Cup of Newport, one of the top falls tournaments in the Northeast, and the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate at Ohio State. A talented recruiter, Quinn brought in Brandon Matthews to the fold in the fall of 2012 and the freshman from DuPont, Pa, quickly etched his name in the Temple record books. Matthews would earn all-Atlantic 10 Conference, Rookie of the Year and a spot as an alternate at the U.S. Open in his phenomenal year. He also advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Amateur Championship, In 2013-14, Matthews would continue to improve his game, earning First Team All-American Athletic Conference honors as well as an at-large selection to the NCAA Championship field. Matthews, who tied for fourth in The American Championship, compiled a 71.5 stroke average for the season. He had eight Top 5 finishes over 12 events with a win at the Barnabas Health Intercollegiate. Matthews went on to set the Temple record for stroke average in 2014-15, winning four individual titles en route to a 70.9 average for his 33 rounds. He tied school record for career individual titles (8) and was named First Team all-Conference and honorable mention All-American en route to his second straight NCAA Tournament appearance. He ended his career with another all-conference honor in 2015-16. Quinn played four seasons under Temple Hall of Fame head coach John MacDonald, earning All-Atlantic 10 honors as a senior in 1990. He helped the Owls to the NCAA Tournament in 1987 and to a pair of NCAA East Regionals in 1989 and 1990. The team also won the ECAC Championship and was second at A-10s in 1990. The Northborough, Mass. native won 17 professional tournaments, including most recently the 2003 Massachusetts Open Championship. Quinn also won the Greater Portland Open with a course-record 11-under par 61, a record that still stands today at the Riverside Golf Course. He was forced to retire from playing after a back injury in 2004. He then founded the BQ Golf Academy in Conshohocken, PA where he is the director of instruction. Quinn is on the board of directors for the AM8 Foundation of fellow Temple Owl Aaron McKie and the First Tee of Philadelphia. To contact Coach Quinn, please email or call .
