Carla Hazelwood

Assistant Coach

Hazelwood is now in her fourth season as the assistant golf coach for the Tech men's and women's teams. Working closely with both squads, Hazelwood has helped Golden Eagle golfers achieve much over the past three seasons, including four All-OVC honors, two OVC All-Newcomer honors and four OVC All-Tournament nods. Tech golfers have earned 30 All-Tournament accolades since her return to Cookeville and each team has captured a tournament title as well. Both the men's and women's teams have placed in the top five of the OVC Championship twice during Hazelwood's tenure. Additionally, since her return to her alma mater, Tech's players and teams have broken numerous school records, including the women's all-time scoring mark for 54 holes, both as a team and for an individual. Also broken were the men's team 18-hole scoring record and 54-hole scoring record, among others. Hazelwood began her career at Tech in 2005 and was named Most Dedicated Player by legendary TTU coach Bobby Nichols. A team captain in 2009, she finished her playing career with two All-Tournament honors (2006 North/South/Jacksonville Beach Golf Course and 2007 TSU Triangular/Greystone Golf Course). Prior to her return to Tech, Hazelwood served as the graduate assistant coach at fellow OVC school, Austin Peay.

Polk Brown

Assistant Coach

Brown, now in his fifth season as head coach of the Tennessee Tech men's and women's golf teams, was named to the position back on July 21, 2011. Brown has coached several successful golfers over his first four years, boasting a combined four All-OVC players between both teams. In addition, his players have earned 32 All-Tournament nods while the teams have combined to produce 28 top-five finishes, including two tournament titles. He has coached two OVC All-Newcomer Team members and seen four of his players achieve All-Tournament honors at the OVC Championships. Both the men's and women's teams have placed in the top five of the OVC Championship twice during Brown's tenure. Additionally, since his arrival as the head man on the links for the Golden Eagles, his players and teams have broken numerous school records, including the women's all-time scoring mark for 54 holes, both as a team and for an individual. Also broken were the men's team 18-hole scoring record and 54-hole scoring record, among others. Brown received his bachelors degree in finance from Tech in 2006, and completed his coursework in August, 2011, adding his masters degree in curriculum and instruction. He spent his first year after graduation as an Apprentice at Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville, then returned to school in 2009 to begin working toward his masters. He also worked for two years at Oak Ridge Country Club teaching and hosting junior clinics. I am absolutely honored to have the opportunity to represent Tennessee Tech, Brown said upon his hiring. Its a dream come true. The coaches before me, especially Bobby, left a huge legacy for me to try to fulfill, especially in the high principles he held. I remember going to school in August, 2001 and now its exactly 10 years later Im coming back as head coach. Its such an honor. Brown said helping the current and future Golden Eagle players achieve success in life is his highest priority. I just want to represent Tennessee Tech in the best way possible. I am thrilled to be coming back, and I want to work with these young men and women and help them achieve all they can, Brown said. I want them to graduate from Tennessee Tech, and I want to help prepare them to be successful for the rest of their lives. I want them to strive for OVC championships, and to become the very best person they can. And, when they look back they can say it was the best time theyve ever had. Brown was a four-year letterman under coach Bobby Nichols, playing for the Golden Eagles from 2001 to 2006, with a redshirt season in 2003-04. As a player, he earned all-tournament honors three times during his career, including the Mercer Invitational as a freshman and the EKU Spring Invitational as a senior. A team captain in his final year, he finished fifth at the 2006 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament to claim his third all-tournament honor. In 2001-02 he won the Most Improved Player Award and the Impact Award, and in 2005-06 he received the teams Most Dedicated Player Award.
