Jovany Macias

Head Coach

Jovany Macias accepted the head women's soccer position in 2023.  Macias joined the Dustdevils as an assistant coach in August 2021. Macias returns to Laredo after three seasons at the junior college level, most recently at Heartland Community College in Normal, Ill. where he was the head coach for both men's and women's soccer. At HCC, he led both teams to back-to-back NJCAA Region 24 Tournaments, including wining the region in the 2020-21 season and advancing all the way to the NJCAA Division II National Semifinal. Macias was the 2020-21 Region 24 and Central District Coach of the Year for both teams. Prior to his time at HCC, he served as the head coach at Western Texas College, where he guided the Westerners to three-straight NJCAA Region V Championships. He was also named the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Coach of the Year for the 2018-2019 season. Macias was also an assistant for the USL League 2's Midland Sockers in the summer of 2018. He also holds USSF National Licenses (C, D and F). Macias began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant for current head men's coach Claudio Arias at TAMIU. As an athlete, Macias was a two-time team captain for the Dustdevils and earned First Team All-Heartland Conference and NSCAA DII First Team All-South Region honors as well as Heartland Conference Freshman of the Year during his time in Laredo. He also played professionally, spending time with the Laredo Heat (USL League Two, formerly Premier Development League), the Upward Stars (National Premier Soccer League) and the Midland-Odessa Sockers (USL League Two). Macias graduated from TAMIU in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in fitness and sports.

Carlos Ordaz

Coach

Carlos Ordaz enters his first season as an associate coach for TAMIU Women’s Soccer in 2025. Ordaz brings over 20 years of experience as a player, coach, and program leader in both Mexico and the United States. He enjoyed a professional playing career with Liga MX clubs Atlante and Chiapas and competed for several seasons with Laredo Heat SC in the USL/PDL. Ordaz’s coaching background spans youth, academy, and professional environments, including leadership roles with YMCA Arsenal Rome, IAFC, and Atlanta United FC’s youth academy, as well as experience with Club Necaxa and Club América in Mexico. He holds multiple elite certifications, including a U.S. Soccer B License, UEFA C License, and FEMEXFUT “A” Pro License, and also earned an MBA in Communications from UANL. Known for his player-first philosophy, Ordaz is committed to developing well-rounded student-athletes who excel both on the field and beyond.
