Ross Smithey

Head Coach

Smithey comes to A&M-Commerce from Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, where he spent a year and a half as an assistant coach for the Yellowjackets. During his time at Graceland, he coached a national runner-up in the women's shot put as well as national qualifiers in the women's discus pole vault and men's long jump. Under Smithey's tutelage, the Yellowjackets set school records in the women's shot and discus with 19 athletes earning all-HAAC honors. Prior to his time at Graceland, Smithey spent one season at West Texas A&M where he coached an All-American in the men's indoor pole vault, the first All-American in program history. Smithey then coached All-Americans in the women's heptathlon and the men's 4x100 meter relay during the outdoor season as the Buffs set program records in nine different events during the 2012 season. Before his time in Canyon, Smithey spent two seasons at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., where he oversaw the combined events, jumps and throws. During his time working with the Eagles, he coached an NCAA qualifier in the indoor women's high jump as well as the 2010 USTFCCCA South/Southeast region women's field athlete of the year. Smithey helped lead Emory to three-straight women's team conference championships while coaching 14 All-University Athletic Association honorees.

Jacob Krolick

Assistant Coach

Krolick is a graduate of Edinboro University (Pa.) in 2012 with a Bachelors Degree in Secondary Math Education. He competed in undergrad and made it to multiple Cross Country National meets and made the All-Academic team three times. Post undergrad, Krolick completed graduate work at Adams State, earning a Masters in Athletic Coaching. Additionally, Krolick also competed in Cross Country and Track and Field for one year, making the NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 10k.   Krolick began his coaching career in the Fall of 2012 as a student assistant at Adams State for Men and Women Cross Country, where the men won the NCAA DII National Cross Country Championship and the women finished third. Returning to his undergrad, Krolick served as a volunteer assistant in 2013-2014 recording another successful year with the Womens team winning the Atlantic Regional. In the NCAA DII nationals that year, the mens team finished ninth and the women finished thirteenth. Krolick then became the Assistant Coach at Pfeiffer University in 2014-2015, where every runner set PRs 30-60 seconds in events over 5km. Coach Krolick continues to train to qualify for the US Olympic Marathon Team trials. He is currently 25 seconds off of the Olympic B Standard.   I am very grateful to have the opportunity to coach at a university which has had such great success on the track in recent years. I see a bright future for the A&M-Commerce Cross Country and Track programs and I am excited to be a part of it! Coach Krolick said.   His sister, Sarah Krolick, who was a three-time All-American Cross Country/Track athlete at Edinboro University (Pa.), is currently a graduate assistant coach at Southeastern University in Florida.
