Steve Porter

Assistant Coach

Austin Falke was hired as an assistant men's basketball coach at Texas Lutheran in April 2014 after spending two seasons at Schreiner. Falke came to Texas Lutheran and the Bulldogs won Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships in 2014-15 and 2015-16. In August of 2016, Falke was promoted to associate head coach of men's basketball by new Head Coach Mike Wacker. With Wacker and Falke, the Bulldogs won their third consecutive championship, the 2016-17 SCAC title. After advancing to the SCAC semifinal round in the 2017-18 season, the Bulldogs came back in 2018-19 to win their fourth SCAC Championship in five years and make their fourth NCAA Division III Championship appearance. In the 2019-20 season, the Bulldogs turned a preseason prediction of seventh (in the SCAC Coaches' Poll) into a runner-up SCAC Tournament finish. The 2020-21 season will be Falke's seventh year with the Bulldogs. With Falke on the bench, the Bulldogs have won three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Regular Season Championships and four SCAC Tournament Championships. Falke has been an assistant on four NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship teams (first round appearances in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2019). Falke was an assistant under Smith while also working as the head coach of the Mountaineers' junior varsity squad. During his time at Schreiner, Falke and Smith teamed together to lead the Mountaineers to a record-breaking 2013-14 season, setting program-best marks in winning percentage and wins. Schreiner went to just its second and third conference tournaments in school history during Falke's tenure. Falke came to Schreiner after graduating from Stephen F. Austin, where he enjoyed a three-year playing career. The Lumberjacks won back-to-back Southland Conference titles during his playing career and played in both the NCAA Tournament and the NIT. After his playing career with SFASU was over, he spent the 2011-12 season as a graduate assistant coach for the 'Jacks.  Falke graduated with a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology from Stephen F. Austin in August 2010. He earned a master's degree in kinesiology from SFASU in May 2012. He played high school basketball for Thorndale, where he was named the 2007 Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class A Player of the Year. He is married to Rebekah Falke. The Falkes are the proud parents of two daughters, Lily James Falke and Autumn Ray Falke.
