Kevin Long

Head Coach

Kevin Long enters his fourth season as head coach of the Texas Wesleyan Men’s Golf Team. In his first three seasons, he led the team to 12 tournament victories, including the 2024 Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) Championship and a runner-up finish at the 2024 NAIA National Championship. His players have earned 10 individual titles, including the 2024 and 2025 SAC Conference Championships, and the 2024 NAIA National Champion medalist, along with eight SAC All-Conference Players, seven NAIA All-Region Players, five NAIA All-Americans, and finalists for prestigious awards such as the NAIA Player of the Year and Phil Mickelson NAIA Outstanding Freshman Award. Long’s teams have consistently ranked in the NAIA top 10, finishing the 2024-25 season at No. 6. Academically, his teams excel, producing 15 Academic All-Americans, earning SAC All-Academic Team honors each season, and maintaining a team GPA above 3.5 every semester. Long’s leadership has been recognized with the 2023-24 SAC Coach of the Year, 2023-24 West Region NAIA Coach of the Year, and finalist nods for the Dave Williams NAIA Coach of the Year in 2023-24 and 2024-25. Before joining Texas Wesleyan, Long served as Executive Director of First Tee Fort Worth for 17 years, during which the organization expanded to serve over 50,000 youth annually across four counties, providing life skills education through golf. He oversaw the construction of two Ben Hogan Learning Centers and the Briscoe Program Location. His tenure earned the First Tee Chairman’s Award, Master Executive Award, and the 2013 Renee Powell Diversity Award. Long also contributed to the First Tee Network through educational and professional development initiatives and chairs the Fort Worth Junior Golf Association’s annual championship, the nation’s largest free junior golf tournament. Previously, Long had a 25-year career as an educator, coach, and administrator across five schools in four states, achieving a New Jersey Prep State Basketball Championship, three regional championships, and a Georgia Independent School Athletic Association State Golf Championship. His basketball program at The Hun School was named Program of the Decade for the 1990s, and his 2000 State Championship Golf Team was inducted into the Augusta Prep Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014. A Fort Wayne, Indiana native and multi-sport athlete, Long holds a Bachelor’s in Physical Education from Indiana University and a Master’s in Educational Administration from Rider University. He resides in Fort Worth with his wife, Erin, an elementary school teacher, and their two college-aged sons.

Bobby Cornett

Assistant Coach

Cornett's guidance.  Ravetto and fellow freshman Leo Mathard were both named 1st-team NAIA All-American. As a player, Cornett led the Rams to four Big State Conference Championships and an NAIA National Championship in 1969.  In 1972, Cornett was named NAIA All-American and was the Big State Conference individual medalist. After a seven-year sabatical from golf during which he served as a juvenile probation officer, Cornett made the jump to the professional ranks following a runner-up finish at the 1977 Texas Amateur.  As a professional, Cornett won several times while making the finals of the PGA Tour School five times and the Senior PGA Tour School twice. In 1983, he returned to Texas Wesleyan as assistant golf coach before taking over as head coach in 1985.  Over the next 14 seasons, he led the Rams to 63 tournament wins, including the National Championships in 1990, 1995, and 1999.  Cornett also produced 23 All-American selections and three National Medalists during that stretch. In 19 seasons, his teams have produced 81 wins, with at least one win in 18 seasons.  In all but two seasons the team produced multiple victories.  Twice his teams posted eight wins in a season (1989 and 1999), just one shy of the school record of nine wins set by O.D. Bounds 1983 squad.  In total, he has coached 43 All-Americans and 20 NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Ricky Dotson

Assistant Coach

Dotson is in his fourth season (2016-17) with the men's golf program and fifth season at Texas Wesleyan.  He was promoted to Associate Head Men's Golf coach in the 2015-16 season. During the summer of 2016, Dotson headed up the United States team at the World University Championships in Brive, France, leading Team USA to an 11th place finish. Dotson came to Texas Wesleyan and served as assistant men's basketball coach for three seasons beginning in 2012, after a 21 year stint at Lon Morris College where he served as an assistant basketball coach under his father, Dale Dotson. As an assistant, Dotson helped guide the Bearcats to four conference titles, three regional championships, and three NJCAA National Tournament appearances including a 6th place finish in 2007. Averaging over 22 wins per year during his tenure at Lon Morris, Dotson was a part of a program that produced over 70 Division I basketball players and six NJCAA All-Americas while graduating over 90% of its players. Dotson also served as an Associate Athletic Director during his last four years at Lon Morris College He holds a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Communications from the University of Texas at Austin.

Bobby Cornett

Assistant Coach

Bobby Cornett is entering his 40th season (2024-25) as a men's golf coach at Texas Wesleyan. The Hall of Fame coach led the Rams from 1985-99 as head coach, then served ten seasons as an assistant coach while focusing on the National Senior Tour and Senior PGA Tour before returning to his role as head coach prior to the 2009-10 season. After winning his fourth National Championship and earning his fourth NAIA National Coach of the Year award in 2019, Cornett turned the reins of the program over to Shaun Hensley while stepping back into the role of assistant coach. Cornett is a member of the Texas Wesleyan Athletic Hall of Fame ('86), the Golf Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame ('10), and the NAIA Hall of Fame ('12). He has been named NAIA National Coach of the Year four times while leading the team to National Championships in 1990, 1995, 1999 and 2019. In his final season as head coach (2018-19), the Rams posted a dominant performance at Las Sendas Golf Club in Mesa, AZ, to win the program's seventh national title. The Rams finished at +30 (1166) to top Coastal Georgia by nine strokes and rival Oklahoma City by 16 strokes. Victor Miron tied for eighth at +6 for the tournament while Tyron Davidowitz (T11) and Rowan Lester (T14) also posted top-15 individual finishes. On the season, the Rams took six tournament victories, including the SAC Championship, pushing the program's all-time total to 222 wins at the time. Five Rams were named All-American in Tyron Davidowitz, Declan Kenny, Rowan Lester, Victor Miron and Futa Yamagishi. As a player, Cornett led the Rams to four Big State Conference Championships and an NAIA National Championship in 1969. In 1972, Cornett was named NAIA All-American and was the Big State Conference individual medalist. In total, he has coached 51 All-Americans and 21 NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Cornett earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and psychology from Texas Wesleyan in 1972.
