Head Coach

Martinez was hired in September of 2014, and tasked with restarting the women's tennis program at Texas Wesleyan.  Last season (2015-16), the Lady Rams returned to the court for the first time since 2002.  Under Martinez's guidance, the Rams went 11-4 overall and advanced to the Regional Final just one win shy of  the NAIA National Tournament.  The team received votes in every regular season NAIA Coaches' Poll and was rated as high as 30th in the nation.   Martinez has 31 years of coaching experience at the high school level.  At Grapevine High School he built a state powerhouse and nationally respected program.  Prior to taking over at Grapevine in 1999, Martinez worked at Cedar Hill High School for 15 years.   In his high school coaching career, he built a record of 638-105 with 19 District Championships while finishing as the runner-up on nine other occasions, 2 Area Championships, and one State Championship.  He has coached 344 All-District selections, 32 District Players of the Year, and 102 Regional Qualifiers.  In 2002-03 he was named Wilson/TTCA 5A Coach of the Year and Fort Worth Star-Telegram Coach of the Year.  He was named USPTA Texas High School Coach of the Year in 2005, 2009, and 2013, and was named USTA Starfish National Coach of the Year in 2009.   Martinez is a graduate of UT-Arlington and holds a USPTA Elite Pro Certification.
