Thomas College Men's Ice Hockey

Joe Waraskevich was appointed Head Men's Ice Hockey Coach on August 1, 2022, and enters his fifth season in the role. Prior to his appointment, Waraskevich served as an Assistant Men's Ice Hockey Coach from the 2014/15 season until the 2020/21 season. After a one year hiatus from Thomas, he returned for what was his 8th season leading the Terriers to a 10-7-3 record in the 2022/23 season, qualifying for the NECHA Playoffs. Coach Waraskevich played an instrumental role as Head of Recruiting during his first tenure at Thomas and recruited the group that won the schools first NECHA Conference Championship in the 2019-2020 season. The first recruiting class with Waraskevich as head coach is very strong and with that there is a clear focus on getting back to the top of the NECHA Conference and competing at the National Tournament. Ryan Kappelmann was named Assistant Ice Hockey Coach August 1st, 2023 after graduating and playing his final season as a Terrier during the 2022-23 season. Ryan has spent a significant amount of his spare time coaching at various levels, to include 18U AAA, and various junior hockey showcase tournaments. As a member of the Terriers, he showed a natural ability to recruit. Ryan had an excellent playing career and will certainly be remembered as one of the top players to ever come through the program. He displayed the character and commitment necessary to be successful and he will bring that to his next role with the team. Ryan also works in admissions and provides great insight for potential recruits. His parents Barbara and Rick have been significant supporters of Thomas College Hockey.  

Coach Peter Tibbetts was hired as Assistant Ice Hockey Coach in September of 2022. Although new to the Terriers program Coach Tibbetts is no stranger to the ice and the Thomas College Community. Coach Tibbett’s mother is long time professor Roberta Tibbetts and since he was old enough to remember Peter has had a connection to Thomas. Coach Tibbetts has a long history of coaching at all levels in the community and also brings with him professional experience in the work place that translates perfectly to his role on the bench. Peter resides in Oakland, Maine with his wife Kara and their four children who are his biggest fans.
