Gavin Kane
Head Coach
Gavin Kane came to Thomas College for the 2024-25 season after spending the previous seven years as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director at The University of Maine – Presque Isle where he led the Owls to 3 consecutive North Atlantic Conference Playoffs following the Covid season of 2020-21. Kane’s lengthy coaching career also involves 28 years as a boys and girls High School varsity coach in Maine, two years as a Men’s Assistant Coach at D3 UMaine-Farmington, and two years as a Women’s Assistant Coach at D1 UMaine-Orono. In May of 2025 Kane was promoted to Head NCAA Women's Basketball Coach. Kane will serve as Associate Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Thomas as well as the NCBBA Head Coach. “I am extremely pleased to be part of the Thomas College Athletic Department and Community. I very much look forward to working with Coach Coleman and Coach Mehan with our NCAA Team, as well as leading our National Club Basketball Program.” Kane has been inducted into both The New England Basketball Hall of Fame (2013) and The Maine Basketball Hall of Fame (2020). His High School coaching resume includes an overall record of 525 wins – 117 losses, 7 State Championships and a Maine State record 11 consecutive Regional Championships. Kane developed several D1 players, most notably Tom Knight, a 6’8” center for Dirigo High School, who went on to play at Notre Dame, and Lyndsay Clark, a 6’1” center who also played at Dirigo HS and went on to play at Albany. While at D1 UMaine, Coach Kane was instrumental in the recruitment of guard Ashleigh Roberts who went on to score 1,248 for the Black Bears. Kane graduated from The University of Maine – Farmington with a Bachelor of Science Degree in School and Community Health. He has also coached both High School and College Golf and Baseball during his career. Kane resides in Wilton, Maine. Rebecca Fletcher

Rebecca Fletcher has joined the Thomas College Women’s Basketball Program for the 2025-26 season after a long and successful coaching career at both the collegiate and high school levels. Most recently Fletcher was a Women’s College Assistant Basketball Coach from 2019 – 2024 at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. where she recruited across the State of Maine, the U.S, and Canada and scouted conference and non-conference opponents for the Owls. Prior to that Coach Fletcher was the Women’s Varsity Basketball Head Coach from 2016 – 2019 at Dirigo High School, and a Varsity Assistant at Mt. Blue High School for two years helping the Program to two Eastern Maine Tournament appearances in 2015 and 2016. From 2011 to 2014 she was the JV Coach and a Varsity Assistant for the Spruce Mountain Phoenix who recorded a 55 and 4 record during that time. Fletcher was the Men’s Varsity Basketball Head Coach in 2010 – 2011 at Dirigo High leading them to a Westen Maine Championship and the State Runner-up. Fletcher had a stellar playing career at Dirigo High School where she capped off her senior season by scoring 35 points in leading the Cougars to a State Championship over Calais High School. She went on to play collegiate basketball at UMF where she was a captain, an All-Conference selection and helped lead the Beavers to two National Tournament appearances.

Maggie Mehan
Coach
Mehan was hired as an Assistant Women's Basketball Coach for the 2024/25 season, and promoted to Head JV Women's Basketball Coach / Assistant NCAA Women's Basketball Coach in May of 2025. She now enters her third year at Thomas. Mehan has coaching experience at several different levels of basketball, including High School, AAU, and several different levels of Collegiate basketball. Mehan got her start in NCAA Division I athletics, serving as a Student Manager for the University of Kansas’s Women’s Basketball team in the 2016-17 season. From there Mehan went on to graduate from Kansas in 2019 and became a Graduate Assistant for the Women’s Basketball program at Goucher College from 2022-24. Last season she served as an Assistant Coach for our Women’s Basketball program and had several key responsibilities such as creating scouting reports, implementing practice plans into workouts for the team’s post players, building schedules, and other day-to-day responsibilities. Mehan is originally from St. Louis, Missouri, and received her bachelor’s degree in Sport Management from the University of Kansas in 2019. She went on to receive her Master’s degree in Athletic Program Leadership & Administration from Goucher College in 2024.
