Carla Spenkoch
Head Coach
Spenkoch joined the Trinity staff in the fall of 1998. She coached the Tiger men and women for a number of years, before focusing on the womens team beginning in 2010. The Tiger women's team finished the 2015-16 season with a #20 national ranking by Golfstat. Trinity also captured the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship for the second time. Coach Spenkoch also led Trinity to the 2014 conference title. She was voted by her peers as the SCAC Coach of the Year in each of the seasons. Brigette Lee '16 was elected the 2016 SCAC Woman of the Year. Lee took home top individual honors in 2013, and was named the SCAC Women's Golfer of the Year, and the SCAC Newcomer of the Year. She became just the second player in conference history to win both awards in one season. Lee was also a two-time Academic All-American. Coach Spenkoch guided the 2003 Tiger mens squad to the NCAA Division III Championships, marking Trinitys first bid since 1975. Trinity finished in 18th place at the 2003 national event, with two Tiger players earning All-America honors. Golf Digest, one of the most prestigious sports publications in the nation, recognized the Tigers in the top-five nationally in its 2006 collegiate academics first rankings. Trinitys men also won the 2005 SCAC Championship under Coach Spenkochs leadership. A total of 36 golfers (21 men, 15 women) during Coach Spenkoch's tenure have earned All-SCAC accolades. Seventeen Tigers (11 women, six men) have been named All-American Scholars. Coach Spenkoch, a member of the staff of The Quarry Golf Club in San Antonio, is also a highly respected teacher of the game. Before joining The Quarry, Coach Spenkoch was employed in the same capacity by Precision Golf Center, also in San Antonio. She has been named as one of the Top Texas Women Instructors by Texas Golf for Women magazine, honoring the 20 most qualified teachers in the state. Coach Spenkoch graduated from the the University of Texas at Austin in 1977 with a bachelors degree in physical education. She served as captain of the Lady Longhorn golf team during the 1975 and 1976 seasons, and was voted in the squads most valuable athlete in 1976. Also in 1976, Coach Spenkoch captured the Austin, Texas, City Womens Amateur Championship. She is a Life Member of the Ladies Professional Golf Association Teaching and Club Division.
