Karl Gregor
Head Coach
Gregor, the interim head coach of the Tufts University Men's Tennis team in 2014-15, has been named head coach of the Jumbos following a competitive national search. "Throughout the search and interview process, it became clear that Karl possesses all of the attributes and values we were looking for in the leader of our mens tennis team," said Director of Athletics John Morris. "He has also earned a tremendous amount of confidence and trust from the student-athletes he led this past season. Under Karls leadership, I am confident our mens tennis student-athletes will have an outstanding student-athlete experience and continue to help the program reach new heights." Gregor had been an assistant coach at Tufts since 2011. As the interim leader last year, he was at the helm of a Jumbo team that earned its highest seed ever in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship. Tufts received the #4 seed in the NESCAC Tournament last season with a late-season run featuring wins over Williams, Colby, Connecticut College and Bates. The 2014-15 Jumbos under Coach Gregor finished with a #20 national ranking by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. "When I first got here four years ago, the goal when you played a Middlebury, Williams or Amherst was you didn't want to get beat 9-0," Gregor said. "Now were playing those teams closer, or even beating them, so the belief has come. The players know that we can compete with anyone and that belief goes a long way." Gregor attended the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and graduated in 1997. He was captain of the mens tennis team and played #1 singles at Air Force. After graduation, he served in the Air Force for four years. He also played one year on the ATP Pro Tennis Circuit in 2002. He earned his Masters Degree in Finance at Bentley College in 2002. Prior to coming to Tufts, Gregors collegiate tennis coaching experience included stints at the Air Force Academy, Boston University and Harvard. He joined the Tufts mens tennis program as an assistant and received the ITA Northeast Assistant Coach of the Year Award in 2013. #
