Tufts University Women's Soccer

Whiting is in her 17th season as the head coach of the Tufts University Women's Soccer program. The Jumbos are well established in New England and on the national level under her leadership. Whiting has directed the Jumbos to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including the 2000 and 2005 seasons when they won New England championships and advanced to the NCAA "final four." Tufts hosted the NCAA "final four" on Kraft Field in 2000 when the Jumbos lost to College of New Jersey on a last-second goal in the championship game. Whiting was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III National Coach of the Year that season. That team won a school-record 18 games, which is followed by the 2005 team's 15 wins in the school record book. The Jumbos have a 9-3-3 record overall in NCAA play under Whiting's guidance. During Whiting's tenure, her teams have compiled a 152-78-29 total record for a .643 winning percentage. Only one of her 16 teams has finished with a losing record. The Jumbos are a regular among the top four teams in the competitive New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). They have qualified for 14 of the 15 NESCAC Championship tournaments (top eight) and were conference champions in 2002 as well as the runner-up in 2000 and 2005. Coach Whiting has been selected by her peers as NESCAC's Coach of the Year in 2010, 2005 and 2002. The athletes recruited to Tufts by Coach Whiting succeed on the field and in class. Whiting has coached five NSCAA All-Americans, including First Team selections Ariel Samuelson in 2005 and Sara Yeatman in 2001. Recent graduate Catharine Greer was a three-time NSCAA All-Region selection and was voted to the Capital One Academic AllDistrict ® Team last fall. Anya Kaufmann, a 2013 grad, established the program's single-game scoring record with three goals and an assist against Suffolk in 2013. The NSCAA has recognized Tufts Women's Soccer with a Team Academic Award nine times during Coach Whiting's tenure. A 1993 Tufts graduate, Whiting played four seasons as an all-star goalkeeper for the Jumbos. She was the team's MVP three times and still holds the program's records for career saves and fewest goals allowed in a season. After graduation, she worked for six seasons as an assistant coach under Bill Gehling. She was promoted to head coach when Gehling was named Athletics Director at Tufts in July 1999. Whiting has National and Advanced Diplomas from the NSCAA. #
