Adam Hoyt

Head Coach

Hoyt, the Tufts men's swimming coach for 11 seasons from to 2004-15, now serves as head coach of the Jumbo men's and women's swimming programs as of last year. In his first season directing both squads, the Jumbos enjoyed great success. The men earned 12th place at the NCAA meet, the best showing by the team at Nationals since the 2006 squad was 10th. Swimmers Michael Winget and Kingsley Bowen, along with diver Matt Rohrer all came home with a pair of All-American honors. Bowen's fourth in the 200 backstroke and Winget's fourth in the 100 back were the best Tufts finishes at NCAA's in the last 30 years. The Jumbos were also the runner-up at the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championships. Bowen earned the conference's Rookie of the Year honor. Eight Tufts men overall received All-Conference honors. The 2015-16 women's team returned from the NCAA meet with two honorable mention All-American times. Freshman Colleen Doolan was 12th in the 200 butterfly with a 2:04.11 mark. Amanda Gottschalk recorded an honorable mention All-American time of 2:19.04 for 12th place in the 200 breaststroke. The Tufts men's team had regularly finished among the leaders at the conference championships, annually earned All-American awards at the NCAA meet, and rewrote the school record book during Coach Hoyt's tenure. Hoyt's Jumbos have placed among the top three at the conference championship eight times since 2006, including second-place efforts in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2016. Eight times under Coach Hoyt the squad has placed among the top 30 teams at the NCAA meet, including 10th in 2006, 12th in 2016, 18th in 2010 and 19th in 2014. In addition to their success in the pool, the Tufts teams also perform well academically. The Jumbos are annual recipients of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) award for team achievement with their cumulative grade point averages. A total of 27 men's and women's team members achieved Academic All-NESCAC honors for 2015-16. Hoyt was hired to lead the Jumbos after veteran coach Don Megerle retired from coaching after 33 years in 2004. The assistant men's and women's swimming coach at Trinity College from 2001-04, Hoyt is a native of Orange, Connecticut and a 2001 graduate of Hamilton College. Under Hoyt's training, the Tufts program has continued its run as one of New England's top programs. Hoyt was named NESCAC Coach of the Year in 2006. #
