Ryan McWilliams
Head Coach
Ryan McWilliams took over as head cross country and track & field coach in 2019-20 after serving as an assistant coach for 10 seasons. McWilliams, who works primarily with the sprinters, jumpers and multi-eventers, served as a graduate assistant for the Seawolves for two seasons before being promoted to assistant in 2012. McWilliams was again promoted in 2016, this time as an associate head coach . Since his promotion in 2012, McWilliams has helped produce three NCAA champions, including guiding then-sophomore Cody Parker to UAA’s fourth NCAA individual title with a GNAC-record toss of 255-10 in the javelin in 2013. McWilliams also led then-senior Cody Thomas to the NCAA title in the decathlon at the 2016 outdoor championships. With indoor and outdoor combined, McWilliams has helped oversee 115 All-America certificates. In 2013, McWilliams received his first U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year honor for the women's outdoor team, before capturing the same honor for the 2014 indoor slate. He garnered his third honor in 2016, after leading the men’s team to their first outdoor GNAC team title. McWilliams joined UAA after a decorated career at Angelo State University from 2005-09. From Alpine, Texas, McWilliams registered six top-10 finishes at the NCAAs as a student-athlete, including three All-America honors in the decathlon and two in the 110 hurdles. The Rams’ team captain ended his career with a runner-up finish in the decathlon, seventh in the 110 hurdles and fourth in the 4x400 relay at the 2009 NCAA Div. II Championships. McWilliams graduated from Angelo State in 2009 with a major in kinesiology and exercise science and earned a master’s degree in public health from Alaska Anchorage in 2016. He and his wife, Amber, have two children.

Chas Davis
Associate Head Coach
Chas Davis came to the University of Alaska Anchorage as the associate head coach for cross country and the assistant track and field coach in the fall of 2021. Davis mentored Cole Nash to a breakout season in 2021-22. Nash earned All-American honors in cross country and the 10,000. He would sweep the 5,000 and 10,000 titles at the GNAC Championships after placing second in cross country and second in the 3,000 and 5,000 indoors. Davis brings over 16 years of Division I collegiate experience, including four years as a head coach. Davis comes to the Final Frontier from fellow West Region foe Holy Names where he served as head coach for the past year. He served as an assistant coach, recruiting coordinator and director of home meets at Pac 12-member California from 2013 to 2020. The Golden Bears men’s cross country teams qualified for back-to-back trips to the NCAA Championships in 2015 & 2016, a first in program history. The women’s team qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships in 2017, their first trip to the championships in six years. Davis consistently signed highly nationally-ranked distance classes and aided in the development of All-Americans Kelsey Santisteban, Thomas Joyce, Bethan Knights, Chris Walden, Brie Oakley and Garrett Corcoran. Davis started his coaching career at his alma mater Creighton as an assistant coach in 2005. He then served as a volunteer assistant at Oregon State for one season (2008-09) before returning to Creighton as the head coach in 2009. Davis, who ran cross country and served as team captain at Creighton, graduating with a degree in journalism and mass communication.

Associate Head Coach
Ray Shadowens currently serves as the associate head coach for cross country/track & field after joining the Seawolves in 2018-19. He made immediate impact with the Seawolves, coaching Chrisalyn Johnson to the GNAC title and All-American honors in the triple jump. Johnson would finish second in the long jump at the GNAC Championships and 19th at the national championships. The Seawolves have excelled in the hurdles under Shadowens. Johsua Wagner earned All-American honors in the 110 hurdles in 2022. Wagner was named the GNAC Male Track Athlete of the Meet after winning both the 110 hurdles and the 400 hurdles. Wagner garnered GNAC Performance of the Meet honors after setting the conference record in the 110 hurdles. Elena Cano collected multiple All-GNAC honors in the hurdles and finished her career as the school-record holder in the 100 hurdles and ranked second in the 400 hurdles, earning a trip to the NCAA National Championships in the later event. Shadowens comes to UAA after serving as the head coach for cross country and track and field at Buffalo State (NY) for the past three seasons. He has served as an assistant coach at Pacific University (Ore.), Bates College (ME) and Roger Williams University (RI). During his time at Buffalo State, Shadowens coached two national champions in the triple jump (indoor and outdoor) and the Bengals broke eight school records and earned 14 all-region and 20 All-SUNYAC honors. Shadowens, a native of Arp, Texas earned a bachelor’s degree in hospitality and business administration from Buffalo State in 2009 and a master’s degree in sports administration from Lasell College in 2014. Shadowens is a USATF Level 1&2 Jumps Coach.

Erin Alewine
Assistant Coach
Alewine attended Central Missouri, where she registered her first NCAA title in the indoor pentathlon in 2013. Alewine then defended her title, winning the same event in 2014. Overall, Alewine amassed 12 All-America honors throughout her career, while being named the 2013 USTFCCA Central Region Field Athlete of the Year. Currently, Alewine who graduated from Central Missouri with a major in dietetics and minors in food and fitness wellness is pursuing a masters in public health at UAA.
