Jim Ragan
Assistant Coach
Ragan was named the head coach of UC San Diego's men's golf program on Sept. 19, 2013. During the team's 2014-15 season, Clayton Yamaguchi and Daniel Yang each recorded a top-five finish. Yamaguchi added a second top-10 placing by tying for sixth at the CCAA Championship. The Tritons' best team finish was at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational in Turlock, where they were sixth of 18 squads. In 2013-14, Ragan's first season at the helm, UCSD qualified for the NCAA South Central/West Regional in Austin, Texas. Just prior, the Tritons placed third of eight at the CCAA Championship, equaling the team's best-ever finish at the event. Three players placed in the top 10. UC San Diego earned top-10 team finishes in seven of eight regular season tournaments over its 2013-14 campaign. The Tritons took third in a 14-team field at the Sonoma State Invitational in October. A two-time NCAA Regional Coach of the Year, Ragan came to La Jolla following 15 years as a coach at the NCAA Division I level with stints at Oklahoma, Vanderbilt and Texas between 1994 and 2009. As the head golf coach at Oklahoma (2000-09), Ragan was tabbed the NCAA Central Region Coach of the Year in 2001 and again in 2004. The Sooners placed first at the 2001 NCAA Central Regional. In 2006, Oklahoma won a Big 12 championship and Ragan was honored as the conference's coach of the year. While at OU, Ragan coached several PGA Tour and European Tour players, including Anthony Kim, the 2005 Big 12 Player of the Year and 2004 NCAA Freshman of the Year and Big 12 Newcomer of the Year. From 1997-2000, Ragan was the head golf coach at Vanderbilt University. He coached current PGA Tour player Brandt Snedeker and recruited a pair of AJGA Junior All-Americans. Snedeker was named the 2007 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, while Kim was the runner-up. As an assistant coach at the University of Texas (1994-97), he helped develop PGA Tour players Brad Elder and Harrison Frazar and recruited David Gossett, also a PGA Tour competitor. Overall, Ragan has coached 13 All-Americans, nine Academic All-Americans and nine student-athletes that went on to play on the PGA Tour or European Tour. Prior to coaching college players, Ragan was a director, assistant director and instructor for Golf Digest Schools at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Florida and Sea Island Golf Club in Georgia from 1988-94. He administered over 150 schools while working alongside legendary golf instructors such as Bob Toski and Davis Love, Jr. Since 2009, Ragan has owned Golf Team Performance in Tyler, Texas. The training gym focuses on improving and enhancing the game from individual and industry standpoints as well as increasing participation in the game. Ragan holds Level 3 Fitness, Level 2 Bio-Mechanics and Level 2 Coach certifications from the Titleist Performance Institute. He is also a Nike NG 360/Gray Institute-certified Performance Specialist. Ragan earned a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Mississippi State University, where he graduated with honors in 1990.

Lewis Simon
Assistant Coach
Simon played in 59 events over the course of his career. In his first three years on the team, Simons stroke average never ranked lower than third on the roster. As a freshman, he shot six rounds under par with a stroke average of 75.9. Simon was named team captain during his sophomore year and placed among UCSDs top-three finishers in the last 12 events of the season. During his junior year, Simon had two top-ten finishes and posted a season-best low round of 70 at the NCAA South Central/West Regional. As a senior in 2013-14, Simon played a total of 26 rounds with a stroke average of 75.5. He shot 3-over par at the CCAA Championship and finished eighth, earning him All-CCAA honors. Simon has been an assistant director of the San Diego Nike Golf Camp since 2011. He graduated from UCSD in 2015 with double major in cognitive science and psychology at Marshall College.
