Schaeffer has continued the tradition of excellence to which Argonauts wrestling fans have grown accustomed. Schaeffers 2014-15 squad boasted five NAIA All-Americans, finished fourth in the team standings at the NAIA National Tournament in Topeka, Kan., and placed third at the Cliff Keen National Duals in Fort Wayne, Ind. falling only to three-time defending champion Indiana Tech in the semifinals. The Argos also finished second at the West Regional Meet in Havre. Two senior wrestlers Kyle Wilson and Michael Ruiz earned runner-up honors at the 2015 National Tournament to join Ryan Martin, Brock Picard and Shawn Lau as All-Americans. The 2013-14 season saw the Argos finish second at the NAIA national tournament in Topeka, Kan., and had five All-Americans. In 2012-13 the Argos also had five All-Americans en route to a seventh-place finish overall. In 2011-12 the Argos were sixth, following a fourth-place finish in 2010-11. Schaeffer has coached four NAIA individual national champions including two-time winner Anthony Varnell, Ross Mosher and Michael Kummer. In his first three seasons, Schaeffer has led his team to the 2007-08 NAIA Western Regional title, and runner-up finishes in 2008-09 and 2009-10. Those teams went on to finished fourth, 12th and third, respectively, at the NAIA national tournaments those seasons. Schaeffer is no stranger to NAIA wrestling as he was a four-time All-American at MSU-Northern. Schaeffer's impressive collegiate career included individual finishes of fourth, fifth, and fifth in his first three years before he claimed a national championship during his senior year. Schaeffer's individual performance at nationals that year was a catalyst for the Lights as they took home the team title. He still holds records for the most wins (165) and most pins (85) in MSU-Northern history. Schaeffer also was a standout in the classroom, twice earning NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete Awards. He was also the recipient of the Student Excellence Award, the most prestigious award given to a student at MSU-Northern. Caleb Schaeffer enters his ninth year as the head coach of the University of Great Falls wrestling program. Since taking over the reins of the program following the resignation of Eric Van Kley, Schaeffer has continued the tradition of excellence to which Argonauts wrestling fans have grown accustomed.
