Rich Hill heads completed his fifth season leading the University of Hawai‘i baseball program in 2026, and his 39th overall as a collegiate head coach. Currently second in career wins among active Division I head coaches, Hill owns a career record of 1,235-842-4 and is 156-104 over his five seasons at UH. He is one of just two active Division I head coaches – and the youngest among them – to have won at least 1,200 career games. Hill became the third-ever head coach for the University of Hawai‘i baseball program on June 18, 2021, after guiding the University of San Diego for 23 seasons where he won multiple West Coast Conference titles and coached two National Players of the Year. The 2025 season marked his 38th season coaching collegiate baseball and his 32nd at the Division I level. Overall Conf. UH is the only Big West team to finish in the top five of the conference regular season standings every year from 2022-26. The Rainbow Warriors finished third nationally with a 3.44 ERA in 2026, marking the third consecutive year UH has finished in the top 20 nationally in ERA. UH went 35-21 and advanced to the semifinals of the Big West Championship in 2025. The 'Bows won six games against teams that made the 2025 NCAA Tournament while winning three elimination games in the final week of the season. Led UH to its best season in 18 years in 2024, going 37-16 overall and 20-10 in Big West play. The 'Bows posted the best record in the country over the final 20 games of the regular season, going 18-2. Also helped the Rainbow Warriors end the 2024 season on an 11-game home winning streak - the longest active one in the country heading into the 2025 season. Hawai‘i led the country in ERA in 2024 at 3.78 while finishing in the top 10 nationally in WHIP (5th), walks per nine innings (6th) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (9th). Guided the Rainbow Warriors to 29-20 overall record and a fifth-place finish in The Big West in 2023. The 2023 'Bows ended the season on a nine-game home winning streak. The UH pitching staff led the conference in ERA (4.23) in Big West games for the second straight year. Helped the Rainbow Warrior offense put up the best numbers by the program since joining The Big West in home runs (36), doubles (100), runs per game (6.3) and slugging (.416). Led the Rainbow Warriors to their best-ever finish in The Big West in his first year with the program in 2022, coming in third at 19-11 in conference play. Hawai‘i jumped from finishing eighth in The Big West in 2021 to third in 2022, its biggest year-to-year improvement since joining the conference in 2013. Helped UH’s pitching staff lead the league in ERA (3.29) in conference play while the team’s 454 strikeouts on the year were the most by a Hawai‘i team since 2006. PRIOR TO UH Spent 23 years as the head coach at the University of San Diego, winning multiple WCC titles and coaching two national players of the year. Guided the Toreros to nine NCAA Tournament appearances with a three-year streak (2006-08) and a pair of back-to-back appearances (2002-03; 2012-13). Won 1000th career game vs Gonzaga May 6, 2018. Recruited and mentored 93 former Toreros to MLB Draft selections or free agent contracts with 15 making it to The Show. Mentored Golden Spikes winner Kris Bryant, National Pitcher of the Year, Brian Matusz and has had 32 All-American or Freshman All-American selections in his 23 seasons at San Diego. In 2021, coached San Diego to a second-place finish in the WCC, with both an All-American and freshman All-American on the roster. Has had at least one All-American in 11 of the last 12 seasons and has had at least one All-American selection in 20 of his 23 seasons in San Diego. Won seven WCC Championships while with San Diego. Keith Zuniga completed his third season as a part of the Hawai‘i coaching staff in 2026 after joining the program in July 2023. Zuniga serves as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. He arrived at UH after spending three seasons at New Mexico State, ending his time with the Aggies as the interim head coach, leading the program from March through the end of the 2023 season. Guided pitcher Isaiah Magdaleno to finish in the top 10 in the country in WHIP (5th) and hits allowed per nine innings (6th) while posting the 13th-best ERA nationally in 2026. Magdaleno ended the year on a tear, posting a 0.83 ERA with 43 strikeouts to just three walks over his final four appearances. The Rainbow Warriors finished 18th in the country and second in the Big West in ERA in 2025 (4.25). Also finished 21st in the nation in WHIP (1.32). Pitching staff struck out 484 batters in 2025, the third-most in program history and most in a year since 1985. Guided the UH pitching staff to the nation's best ERA in his first season in 2024 at 3.78. The 'Bows also finished in the top 10 nationally in WHIP (5th), walks per nine innings (6th) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (9th). The Rainbow Warriors also led the Big West in all four of those categories. UH pitchers finished the 2024 season on a roll, posting a 1.47 ERA over the final 13 games and limiting teams to four runs or fewer in each of those contests. UH's 471 strikeouts are currently the fourth-most in school history. The staff's mark of 8.16 hits allowed per game is the lowest by the program since 1992. Helped guide Hawai‘i to the nation's best record over the final 20 games of the regular season in 2024, winning 18 of the last 20. The team's 37-16 record in his first season was the best for the program since 2006. PRIOR TO UH While at New Mexico State, Zuniga worked primarily as the Aggies’ pitching coach while also serving as recruiting coordinator. A pair of Zuniga’s pitchers at New Mexico State were selected in the 2022 MLB Draft in Ian Mejia (11th round, Atlanta Braves) and Sammy Natera (17th round, Los Angeles Angels), while four others signed professional contracts. Spent six seasons on the staff at his alma mater, Bethune-Cookman, starting off as director of baseball operations from 2015-17 before serving as an assistant coach in 2018 and taking over pitching coach responsibilities from 2019-20. Staff posted a 2.56 ERA in 2020 while holding opponents to a .209 batting average. In 2019, he mentored 11th-round draft pick Anthony Maldonado, who finished second in the MEAC with 97 strikeouts while working with a BCU staff that led the conference in punch-outs. Helped bring in the highest-ranked recruiting class in Bethune-Cookman history, as the 2019 signing class ranked 59th in the country according to Perfect Game. Finished his two-year career at BCU with a 15-9 record and 2.85 ERA over 186.0 innings pitched, earning All-MEAC honors both years. Dave Nakama completed his fourth season as an assistant coach with the University of Hawai‘i baseball program in 2025. He was the first assistant hired by head coach Rich Hill in the summer of 2021 and currently works with the Rainbow Warrior hitters. Nakama returned to Hawai‘i after growing up in Honolulu and attending Kaiser High School and has coached or been a part of a college baseball staff every year since 1985. The Rainbow Warriors hit 37 home runs in 2025 - the fifth-most in a season in school history and most in a year since 2010. Hawai‘i hitters batted .328 with runners in scoring position in 2025, 42 points higher than the overall team average of .286. Two Rainbow Warrior position players earned All-Big West honors in 2025 (Matthew Miura, Ben Zeigler-Namoa). Helped UH put together its best offensive season in 17 years in 2024, hitting .294 and scoring 7.2 runs per game. The 'Bows finished third in the Big West in hitting in 2024 while also sitting in the top three in OBP (.410), runs scored (379) and walks (301). The team's 2024 OBP is the highest in program history since the stat starting being kept in 2002. Hawai‘i scored at least two runs in every game and avoided being shut out through an entire season for just the third time in school history and the first time since 2007. In 2023, the Rainbow Warriors hit 36 home runs, 100 doubles, averaged 6.3 runs per game and slugged .416. Guided a UH offense in 2022 that hit 32 home runs had 277 RBIs, 210 walks and 55 stolen bases. Helped the Rainbow Warriors finish fifth in the conference in both batting average (.269) and on-base percentage (.370). Four Hawai‘i position players earned All-Big West recognition, led by Stone Miyao who was named second-team all-conference. PRIOR TO UH A part of the UW staff that guided the Huskies to their first-ever College World Series in 2018. Helped the development of JC transfer Connor Blair, who ended up being picked in the 15th round of the 2019 MLB Draft. In his DI head coaching stint, the Spartans posted the fourth-highest batting average (.286), the third-highest fielding percentage (.972) and the second-fewest errors (58) in the Western Athletic Conference in 2013 and the second-highest fielding percentage (.970) in the Mountain West in 2014. Oversaw the Spartans' transition from the WAC to the Mountain West in between the 2013 and 2014 seasons. Has been a head coach at four different colleges. Jordon Twohig
Assistant Coach
Jordon Twohig joined the Hawai‘i baseball coaching staff as an assistant coach in July 2025. “What a steal for UH Baseball! Jordon is a college baseball veteran with stops at great programs with phenomenal coaches,” said head coach Rich Hill. “He has a superpower of human connection and will recruit and develop our guys to be the best versions of themselves on and off the field.” Twohig will bring 20 years of coaching experience to the Rainbow Warriors at stops up-and-down the West Coast and across the country during his coaching career. He brings a pedigree of being able to recruit and develop talent at a number of positions, coaching or recruiting 56 players who have been taken in the MLB Draft, including 11 that have reached the big leagues. “My family and I are incredibly honored to be asked by Coach Hill to join the Hawaii baseball family," Twohig said. “This is a proud program with a rich tradition, and I am excited to hit the recruiting trail with that message and Hawai‘i on my chest. I'm grateful to Coach Hill for believing in me and trusting me to help shape the future of this program." Twohig arrives in Manoa after spending two seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Charleston Southern from 2023-24. While with the Buccaneers, he landed the program’s first-ever top-100 recruiting class, marking the 10th time Twohig helped land a top-100 class as part of a Division I staff. Prior to Charleston Southern, Twohig spent three seasons as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at Saint Mary’s from 2020-22. During his time with the Gaels, Twohig was in charge of the offense while leading recruiting efforts and serving as the team’s third base coach. Twohig spent the six seasons prior to that as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at CSUN from 2014-19. In his stint with the Matadors he also served as hitting coach and outfield coach, and helped lead the program to its winningest four-year span ever from 2014-17 over which CSUN won 120 games. Before taking the job at CSUN, Twohig spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Washington from 2011-13 under former UH assistant Lindsay Meggs. He coached third base and worked with the outfielders while assisting with recruiting efforts during his time on the Husky staff, with 10 players from his recruiting classes being selected in the MLB Draft. Twohig spent three seasons prior to that as a head coach at the JUCO ranks, leading Ohlone College from 2008-10. He led Ohlone to a California state championship in 2010 and earned ABCA Pacific Division National Coach of the Year honors, finishing that season ranked third nationally in the Perfect Game junior college rankings. Twohig finished his three-year run as head coach with a record of 94-43 with a pair of regional championships and a Coast Conference Coach of the Year honor in 2009. A 2003 graduate and two-year captain as a player at York College in Nebraska, Twohig got his coaching start at Feather River College in 2004 before spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Saint Mary’s from 2005-06 – his first of two stints with the Gaels.
