Ronn Miyashiro
Assistant Coach
Miyashiro, including Skye Inakoshi, who tied for first place honors at the 2016 John Burns Intercollegiate on Kauai. However, missing from Miyashiros resume is a conference championship, which his 2007 team came within one shot of capturing the programs first title. The second place finish was the highest in school history. In 2013-14, UH captured the Aloha @ Oahu Tournament, its first collegiate victory since 2004 when it shared team honors with Arizona at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Denver, Colo., and the sixth tournament win in Miyashiros tenure. In 2001, Scott Carylyle qualified for the NCAA West Regional and in 2005, Pierre-Henri Soero became the first UH golfer in recent history to compete in the U.S. Open. In addition, a number of his players have won the prestigious Manoa Cup, the states top amateur tournament, including the past two champions - Jared Sawada (2013) and Nainoa Calip (2014). During his tenure as head of the program, Miyashiro has coached nine all-conference golfers, including two NCAA Regional qualifiers. In addition to the state of Hawaii, Miyashiros recruiting efforts have brought him players from all over the globe. He has recruited golfers from foreign countries that include Australia, Canada, Guam, New-Caledonia, Tahiti, Thailand, and Western Samoa as well as American talent from Arizona, California, Florida, Idaho, Nevada, Ohio, South Carolina and Washington. Miyashiros golfing days started in Hilo on the island of Hawaii, where he was a standout on the junior golf level. He prepped at Hilo High School, earning four letters in golf and receiving all-state honors in 1991 and 92. Miyashiro led the Vikings to back-to-back Big Island Interscholastic Federation championships in 1990 and 91. After his stellar prep career, Miyashiro took his talents to the University of Oregon. After three years golfing for the Ducks, he decided it was time to return to the islands and transferred to UH He joined former coach Duane Pavaos team at UH to wrap-up his college eligibility. At age 23, Miyashiro was hired to take over the Hawaii golf program and became the youngest head coach in the history of the University of Hawaii. Miyashiro is single and resides in Mililani, Oahu.
