Head Coach

James has coached seven athletes who made 18 appearances at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships, including high jumper Amber Kaufman, who in 2010 became the school's first track and field national champion in 26 years winning the outdoor title at Oregon's Hayward Field. That same season, Kaufman tied for first place at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas, becoming the first UH athlete to win a regional event. Josh Aydlette

Assistant Coach

Aydlette spent the past decade as throws coach at his alma mater, CSU, where he was inducted into the schools Hall of Fame in 2011.   Aydlettes throwers broke nearly 20 school records and earned 35 Big South all-conference honors. One of recent throwers, Clarence Gallop, placed second at the USA Track and Field Junior Outdoor Championships and finished 24 at the IAAF Junior World Championships this summer.   Two more of his mens throwers, Rob Grabill and Richie German, competed at the USATF Junior National Championships in 2010 and 11, respectively, while womens thrower Joshlyn Noga qualified for the 2012 USATF Junior National Championships.   I am highly looking forward to working with Joshua Aydlette as no doubt all of the throwers on our team are too, James said. Coach Aydlette has a wealth of experience coaching the throws and he has a passion for living in Hawaii which makes him a perfect fit for our program. At the National Junior Track & Field Championships in Eugene last month, one of Coach Aydlettes walk-on throwers at Charleston Southern University threw a personal best in the hammer event and qualified to represent Team USA at the World Junior Championships. This is proof that Josh can not only find diamonds in the rough but he can also coach them to the best of their ability on the national stage! Prior to CSU, Aydlette was the throws coach at Roanoke College in Salem, Va., where he spent two and a half years. While there, three of his athletes won conference titles, one broke a conference record, and five school records were set. A total of 19 all-conference awards in men's and women's track were achieved under his watch.   Aydlette was recently named to the Big Souths All-Decade team. As a standout thrower, he went undefeated in the weight throw against Big South opponents during his career. He won five Big South championships in all and was named to the all-conference team 13 times. Aydlette was the first athlete in Big South Track & Field history to win the same event at the conference championship in all four years of his eligibility. Aydlette still competes in the Scottish Heavy Athletics, where he finished seventh at the 2007 World Amateur Championships.   He is married to former Jessica Dowdy and they have a three and a half year old daughter, Lily. Jessica threw for Radford University, also competed in the Scottish Heavy Athletics, where she finished fifth in the World Championships, won the National Championship in the Caber Toss in 2006, and owns a World Record in the Sheaf Toss.

Tim Boyce

Coach

Boyces inaugural season with the Rainbow Wahine proved to be a turning point for the cross country program, as the team returned to the NCAA West Regional for the first time in four years, and placing four runners in Regional competition. Boyce aided in the development of freshman Montana Martinez, who paced the Rainbow Wahine in each meet of the season, while producing the top 6k times since the 2012 season.   Boyce had a very active offseason, bringing new competition to Manoa, putting together an extremely talented and deep distance recruiting class, a diverse nine-woman group from California, Illinois, Montana, Nevada and Oregon, in addition to rookies from Guam and Canada. Among the group are a state runner-up, a three-event, multi-year IIAAG All-Island Champion and an all-area Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year, as well as athletes who aided their teams to major championships, two at Regionals and another at State.   Boyce arrived at Hawaii from Pacific University (Ore.) where he was the head coach of both the mens and womens track and field and cross country programs for the previous seven years. During his tenure, he coached three cross country runners to the NCAA Division III Championship and seven Northwest Conference (NWC) track and field champions.    Under Boyces guidance in 2013, the Pacific mens track and field team placed third at the NWC Championships, while recording the second-most points in school history at a conference meet. In his final season on the Forest Grove, Ore. campus, the Boxers finished second at the conference meet for the sixth time.   During his tenure at Pacific, Boyce also oversaw the addition of mens and womens indoor track and field programs, which began competition in the 2013 season. During his coaching stint, Pacific hosted a number of high-profile meets, including the 2009 NWC Track and Field Championships, 2012 NWC Cross Country Championships, 2013 Big Sky Conference Track and Field Championships and the annual Pacific Twilight track meet.   Prior to Pacific, Boyce spent seven years as head coach of the track and field and cross country program at SUNY Oswego in Oswego, N.Y. Under his tutelage, 10 athletes competed in the NCAA Division III Championships, while his program broke more than 100 school records and won numerous State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) and New York State Collegiate Track Conference (NYCTC) individual titles. Boyce began his coaching career at Lane Community College in Eugene, Ore., where he was twice named Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) Southern Region Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year and mentored numerous individual conference champions. Following Lane, Boyce spent one and a half years as an assistant coach at Willamette University in Salem, Ore., where he was a member of the coaching staff recognized as the Northwest Conference's Women's Cross Country Coaching Staff of the Year. Boyce is a master's-level certified official by the United States Track and Field (USATF), and he has been certified by the governing body as a Level II Coach. The native of Marcellus, N.Y., Boyce was a three-time Section III champion in track. He is a graduate of Bradley University, where he competed in both cross country and track and field, later receiving his master's degree from the University of Oregon. Boyce and his wife, Kim, reside in Honolulu.
