Mike Brown
Coach
Brown earned his 16th All-Conference Coach of the Year honor after being named MPSF Womens Co-Diving Coach of the Year alongside his wife, assistant coach Anita Rossing. In the 2014-15 season, Brown guided three divers to another year participating in the NCAA Championships. The womens diving team swept the 2015 MPSF Championships, bringing home both the program and the schools first-ever MPSF title across any sport or gender. Additionally, mens MPSF diver of the Year Amund Gismervik swept all three diving events. Gismervik and teammate Aimee Harrison wrapped up another thrilling season with All-American honorable mention statuses. In November, 2012, Brown was recognized for his 18 years of coaching at the University of Texas at Austin by being inducted into their UT Womens Athletics Hall of Honor. This past year Brown was honored for his contributions to the state of Texas as a diver and a coach when he was inducted into the Texas Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame. Despite the accolades, Brown feels that the present is more important than the past. During the past 15 years, two Rainbow Wahine divers won NCAA titles (QiongJie Huang -2005, 1 meter, and Emma Friesen - 2008, 1 meter). Magnus Frick and Rui Wang were NCAA runner-ups for Hawaii. Amund Gismervik joined the UH group of All-Americans with his third-place finish in 2014. Mats Wiktorsson and Megan Farrow also have placed in the top four at the NCAAs for UH. Brown states, It is quite an accomplishment when a UH diver competes against the best divers in the NCAA, places in the top eight and receives All-American honors. Hawaii divers have earned 20 such All-American honors during the past eleven years. At the 2006 Womens NCAA Championships the Rainbow Wahine were the highest scoring diving team in the country. Brown combines his experience and diving perspective from Texas, Hawaii and international competitions. His combined accomplishments include being a three-time NCAA Diving Coach of the Year, diving coach of 14 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship teams, coach of nine NCAA champions, coach of 48 All-Americans, and being one of two coaches of the 1982 USA Divings World Championship Team that swept all of the individual and the team world titles. Brown feels that the greatest joy that he gets out of his job is working in harmony with Anita Rossing as they help develop the Rainbow Wahine and Rainbow Warrior divers to higher levels of performance. Brown also enjoys joining Anita in the ocean as they swim with the highly intelligent Hawaiian spinner dolphins and communicate with the humpback whales. Brown and Rossings daughter Rika Rossing lives and works in Honolulu after graduating from Naropa University in 2012. Rikas artistry is expanding in many modalities.
