During the 2014 cross country season, the mens squad exceeded its conference ranking and finished fourth as a team in its first year in the Big Sky Conference. Sierra Speiker was the top freshmen in the conference on the womens side, earning 13 place in the Big Sky. Floeck previously coached at Oregon State University, from the fall of 2010 to the summer of 2014, before joining the Vandal staff. In 2013, Floeck helped coach Kinsey Gomez to 23rd at the Pac-12 Conference meet and to 47th at the NCAA West Regional in cross country. Gomez also set a school record in the 10,000m (34:37.82) during the 2014 track & field season. In 2013, Floeck worked closely with freshman Emily Weber, who had a stellar first-year campaign in Corvallis, running a personal best in all but one race.  Her best of 4:29.46 came at the OSU High Performance Meet, cutting 14 seconds off her high school PR in the event. Weber also finished 19th overall in the 1,500m at the Pac-12 Championships with a time of 4:33.76 and ran the 5,000m on two occasions, putting up a PR of 16:57.67 at the Oregon Relays. He worked very closely with senior Hayley Oveson, helping her to a fifth-place finish in the 5000m at the 2011 Pac-10 Championships. She also qualified for the NCAA West Region meet in the 5000m. Before arriving in Corvallis at OSU, Floeck was the Head Cross Country and Assistant Track & Field Coach at Lane Community College from 2007-2009. Cathleen Cawley

Assistant Coach

Cawley worked extensively with the sprint groups, including Big Sky Indoor 400-meter Champion Ben Ayesu-Attah.  Ayesu-Attah had a fantastic season, posting personal bests of 47.22 seconds indoors and 46.20 seconds outdoors, taking second at the Canadian National Championships and being a National Qualifier.  Zion Stuffle also had a tremendous season, his first with the Vandals.  A true freshman, Stuffle came to Idaho after a bad hamstring injury closed out his senior season in high school, but he persevered and finished second in the 400-meter hurdles at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships and currently boasts the 10 fastest time in Idaho history.  Kaizer Gillispie also had a great true freshman season, taking sixth in the mens 400-meters at the Big Sky Championships.   On the womens side, Andrea Pikes earned sixth in the 100-meters at the Big Sky Championships.  After not breaking 12.1 seconds in the 100-meters in her collegiate career prior to last season, Pikes saw an incredible boost in performance and set a personal best of 11.86 seconds to move into sixth on Idahos all-time list.  Meghan Palesch placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles at the Big Sky Championships, while Wedensday Walton posted a new personal best in the event.  Cawley also worked closely with Katelyn Peterson as she took third at the Big Sky Championships in the high jump   After her first season, Cawley was selected to be the team manager for the Team USA women at the Senior Area Championships in San Jose, Costa Rica.  With the Vandals, Cawley was instrumental in the growth and development of Jesse Villines, who posted a personal best of 52.05 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles.  Cawley also helped Katelyn Peterson continue her growth in the high jump, leading to her winning the Big Sky Championships in the event.   Cawleys first season with the Vandals was a year for development, as the coaching staff worked on growing its young talent toward the future.  The hard work paid off in the long run, but the Vandals also saw an immediate impact with two athletes qualifying for the NCAA Championships First Round.   Cawley came to Idaho after spending five years at Colorado State University as an assistant track coach and Director of Operations for the track and field programs.  Cawley handled operations, coached high jumpers, and assisted Coach Tim Cawley with the horizontal jumps and multi-events.  While at CSU, Cathleen Cawley coached four NCAA national qualifiers, one honorable mention All-American, the womens high jump runner-up at the 2014 U23-England National Championships, one USA Junior National Championship qualifier, and five top-three All-Conference performances.  Cawley served as a volunteer coach with the Rams during the 2008-09 season.   Prior to CSU, Cawley continued to train post-collegiately as a 400 hurdler and as a heptathlete, training and being mentored by one of the top sprint coaches in the country.  During the 2007-08 season, Cawley worked as the high jump coach at University of Northern Colorado where she coached one conference champion and one NCAA regional qualifier.  Prior to Northern Colorado, Cawley served as a volunteer coach assisting with jumpers and decathletes at Colorado School of Mines.   A graduate from the University of Richmond in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science, Cawley double majored in Computer Science and Physics.  She competed in the high jump, heptathlon, and 400 hurdles.  While at Richmond, she was a team captain, a member of the 2003 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship Team, and a two-time conference champion in the heptathlon.   Cawley is Level I USA Track & Field certified and Level II USA Track & Field certified in Jumps, Sprints, Throws, and Combined Events.  She is also certified as a USA Track & Field Level 1 Instructor and has served as a USA Track & Field Official.  Cawley also completed the USTFCCCA Jumps Specialist Certification.   Cawley takes an active role in her communities.  Within track and field, Cawley served as a USATF Colorado board member, and currently serves as the USATF Women's Development Chair for horizontal jumps and as vice president for the United States Womens Track Coaches Association.  At Colorado State University, Cawley served on the Administrative Professional Council and as a committee member of the Gold Team.  She will complete her Master's in Business Administration in spring 2015.

Tim Cawley

Coach

Cawley also served as the head coach of the Team USA women at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships.   Idaho continued to grow last year under the second-year coaching staff, improving its scoring in every conference meet.  The mens squad took fourth overall at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships, while the womens team improved greatly as well.  In total, six Vandals qualified for the NCAA Championships First Round, with long jumper Arphaxad Carroll and distance runner Kinsey Gomez qualifying for the NCAA Championships in Eugene.  Both Carroll and Gomez would earn Second Team All-America honors.   On the cross country side, the women improved to fourth at the Big Sky Championships, led by third-place finisher Gomez.  The men also saw an improvement, despite redshirting many tremendous athletes for the season.   Cawleys first season with the Vandals was a year for development, as the coaching staff worked on growing its young talent toward the future.  The hard work paid off in the long run, but the Vandals also saw an immediate impact with two athletes qualifying for the NCAA Championships First Round.   Cawely spent the previous 11 seasons at Colorado State where he was responsible for the mulit-events as well as the horizontal jumps and the pole vault. While at CSU, Cawley coached eight All-American performances, 23 NCAA Championship qualifiers, 17 conference champions and several NCAA Regional qualifiers. His last two season in Fort Collins were spent as the head assistant coach, acting as a resource to the other assistant and volunteer coaches.   During the 2012 season Cawley was awarded the Order of Ikkos Medal for coaching DeLoach to her Olympic Bronze Medal. More recently, DeLoach won the silver medal in the 60m hurdles at the 2014 USA Indoor Championships and placed fifth in the 60m hurdles at the 2014 International Association of Athletes Federations (IAAF) World Championships.   Cawley earned his degree in art education from the University of Wyoming, where he competed in the jumps and was on the 4x100m relay team. At the NCAA Championships, he earned All-American honors in 1998 in the long jump and also competed in the triple jump. In 2008 he finished in the top ten at the USA Indoor Championships in the triple jump.    Prior to Colorado State, Cawley was an assistant at Wisconsin-Milwaukee. During his stint with the Panthers Cawley oversaw sprints, hurdles, jumps, pole vault, javelin, hammer and assisted in the day-to-day operations of the program. In two seasons, Cawley coached 43 conference champions and 21 school records.   Cawley is also known in track communities for his development of a sprint sled to help runners in the starting blocks. The sled, now sold by Gill Athletics, is specifically designed to be pulled over the starting blocks, helping runners get into the correct positioning as they train.   After graduating from Wyoming, Cawley began his coaching career as a volunteer coach at Colorado School of Mines in 1999. From 1999-2000 he served as a graduate assistant at West Virginia, before being hired on at Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
