Graham Shaw
Head Coach
Graham Shaw became the head coach of the UIS men's soccer team in 2024. Coach Shaw led the Stars to a GLVC tournament berth in his first year with the program. The postseason berth proved the Stars are ready to be successful under Coach Shaw's direction. Some highlights of Coach Shaw's first season included a 5 game unbeaten steak, while also racking up a 3 game winning streak over that stretch. Another impressive feat was when the Stars were able to score a season high 4 goals in a win against Drury. An individual highlight of the year prompted by Coach Shaw's leadership was Joey Fitzgerald being named GLVC offensive player of the week, after contributing 5 goals in 2 games during the Stars 5 game unbeaten stretch. There was a lot of accolades handed out in Shaw's first year. 4 Stars were named to All-GLVC teams, Joey Fitzgerald was named second team, while Anton Aduwa-Emovon, Noah Brill, and Kevin Herrera were named third team. Not only were the Stars successful on the pitch, they were succesful in the classroom as well. Helping set a University record earning a 3.59 Department GPA across all sports teams. The Men's Soccer team also earned the GLVC Team Academic Award for the 2024 season. Shaw came to Springfield from Marquette University where he was the Assistant Men's Soccer Coach. Prior to his time at Marquette, Shaw served as the assistant men's soccer coach at Maryville University, a GLVC member institution. At Maryville in 2016, Shaw helped the Saints have their highest finish in the GLVC, most wins in program history, and most shutouts in a single season. He also coached a goalkeeper to GLVC Freshman of the Year honors. The Liverpool native becomes the sixth head coach of UIS men's soccer since the program's inception in 1977. Shaw has also served as a coach at Mossley Hill F.C., Challenger Sports and Liverpool F.C. Academy. As a player, Shaw had a successful career in Liverpool, England, representing Tranmere Rovers F.C. Academy and Liverpool School Boys. Shaw holds both English FA level 1 and 2 coaching certificates, as well as a UEFA B License and NSCAA Goalkeeping levels 1, 2 and 3 badges. Shaw completed his degree in psychology from Southeast Missouri State University in May 2021. Coach Shaw leads a new era of UIS Soccer that prioritizes talent development, teamwork and leadership, while encouraging confidence and growth into the UIS Men's Soccer Program.
