Brent Nicoson

Head Coach

Nicoson has win a combined nine GLVC Coach of the Year honors and nine conference titles to his credit. Though he has had great success with both squads, Nicoson's crown jewel came in 2015 when he guided the UIndy women's team to the first-ever team national championship in UIndy history. The Hounds led the four-round tournament wire-to-wire on the way to becoming the first non-Florida-based school to capture the Division II crown. Additionally, Nicoson's women's teams have captured both the GLVC and East Region titles in all five seasons since he took over as the women's coach in the summer of 2011. After the national championship in 2015, the Greyhound women went on to take runner-up honors at the 2016 NCAA DII Championships. Also the UIndy men's coach since 2006-07, Nicoson has guided the Greyhound men 10 NCAA appearances, four conference titles, a regional championship and four top-15 finishes at the NCAA D-II Championships. His Hounds set a program record with a sixth-place finish at nationals in 2009. In 2010, Nicoson mentored now-professional-golfer Seth Fair -- his first recruit at UIndy -- to a fourth-place showing at the NCAA Division II Championships. Fair was later named to the D-II PING All-America First Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). All told, Nicoson has mentored nine GLVC Players of the Year, eight GLVC Freshman of the Year and 11 All-Americans as the coach of both UIndy squads. Nicoson was a three-year varsity golfer at Indianapolis, playing from 1992-94 under UIndy coaching-legend Ken Partridge. Nicoson was the team captain of the 1994 squad. The Hounds won Great Lakes Valley Conference titles in 1992 and 1993, the last of six straight league crowns. Nicoson's grandfather, the late Angus Nicoson, was the athletic director and basketball coach at the UIndy for 30 years. The 4,000-capacity gym on campus was renamed "Nicoson Hall" in honor of Angus Nicoson, who had announced he was taking a disability retirement in the spring of 1977. Dan Nicoson, Brent's father, was an assistant football coach at Indiana Central. His 1975 team remains the only gridiron team in school history to make the postseason, qualifying for the NCAA Division III playoffs after an 8-2 regular season ledger. The team was inducted into the University of Indianapolis Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003. As a player, Brent Nicoson has qualified for the Indiana Open six times, including making the cut most recently in 2003. As a student, Nicoson boasted a 3.45 GPA at UIndy, graduating in 1994 with a bachelor's in business administration. A member of the Dean's List and the Honor Roll, he was part of the Delta Mu Delta National Honor Society in Business Administration and also the recipient of the Indianapolis Kiwanis Club Scholarship. Nicoson is just the second men's golf coach in the past four-and-a-half decades, succeeding Ken Partridge, who stepped down following the 2006 spring season -- his 40th as head men's golf coach.
