Jason Reed
Head Coach
Reed mentored GLVC Freshman of the Year Maggie Gibson during the 2015 season, as she became just the fourth Greyhound to earn the honor. Gibson totaled 810 assists, second-most by a freshman in school history. During the 2014 campaign, Reed led the Greyhounds to what was the eighth consecutive NCAA Tournament and ninth all-time, compiling a 19-11 overall record. UIndy also went 15-3 in the GLVC and captured the East Division for the second time under Reed. Hailey Brown and Meghan Binkerd each earned All-GLVC First Team status in 2014, and Brown went on to earn Daktronics and AVCA All-Region and AVCA All-America honors. In his first season with the Hounds, Reed continued the program's success by leading the squad to a 25-10 (15-3 GLVC) record - marking the tenth 25-win season in team history. The 25 victories are also the most by a first-year coach. He captured UIndy's fourth GLVC Volleyball Tournament title during his first season, and secured the team's eighth NCAA Tournament bid. The Greyhounds defeated Northwood 3-1 in the opening round of the NCAA Midwest Regional before falling to No. 22 Ferris State, 3-1. Reed led a 2013 squad that featured two All-Americans in Meghan Binkerd (AVCA second team, Daktronics Honorable Mention) and Brittany Anglemyer (AVCA third team), and four All-GLVC athletes in Binkerd (first team), Anglemyer (second), Kenzie Bruggeman (second) and Hailey Brown (second). He was named the sixth head coach for University of Indianapolis volleyball on March 18, 2013. Prior to UIndy, Reed spent two seasons as the top assistant at Division I North Dakota State. He helped the Bison finish 26-9 in 2011 as they won both the Summit League regular season and tournament championships on the way to playing Minnesota in the NCAA Tournament. In just two years in Fargo, he helped tutor five players to earn seven spots on the All-Summit League Volleyball Teams, including 2012 AVCA Honorable Mention All-American outside hitter Brynn Joki. Before NDSU, Reed was a part of four straight 20-win teams at Western Michigan (2007-10) that won three consecutive Mid-American Conference West Division championships (2007-09). The Broncos ranked in the top 50 nationally in digs per set each year, including a No. 5 ranking in 2010. Over those four seasons, the Broncos were 95-40 (.704) overall and 51-13 (.797) in the MAC. In 2008, Reed played an integral role in leading the Broncos to the Mid-American Conference championship its first since 2000 and the program's first at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Once in the tournament, WMU defeated Dayton and No. 16 Tulane to advance to the round of 16 for the first time since 1987. As Reed worked with the defense, Caitlin Strimel was a two-time MAC Defensive Player of the Year (the first time a WMU player had ever won the award) and helped set the WMU all-time record in career digs (2,583), while Katie Eberling, Allyson Doyle and Jillian Mitchell all finished their careers in the top-10. Reed went to WMU after beginning his second stint at his alma mater, Michigan State. Reed was a volunteer assistant working with players on defense and was involved with planning and working the Michigan State volleyball camps. Reed was also a manager for the Spartans during the 2005 season, where he filmed matches and performed video scouting and editing. He helped create weekly scouting reports as the Spartans' audio-visual technology specialist. Reed spent the 2006 season as the top assistant at NCAA Division II West Alabama for current Akron head coach Ron Arenz. Reed's on-court duties involved working with the Tigers' defense, and off the court he was involved in recruiting, team travel and practice planning. Reed helped sophomore Jacquie Swan earn Gulf South Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week honors. Despite not playing volleyball in high school, Reed became a standout libero on the Michigan State club volleyball team during his four-year career. He won back-to-back Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Big Ten Tournament awards in 2005 and 2006. The Spartans won the Big Ten Tournament in 2005 and the Big Ten regular season championship in 2006. During the 2006 season, Reed helped MSU to the highest national ranking in school history (#3) and the Spartans were the only team to defeat eventual national champion Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He also helped MSU win back-to-back State of Michigan Championships in 2005 and 2006. Born into a U.S. military family in Germany, Reed graduated from Battle Creek (Mich.) Harper Creek High School in 2001 and then went on to receive a bachelor's in exercise science from Michigan State in 2005. He added a master's degree in exercise physiology from Western Michigan in 2010. Reed married the former Amanda Sink Dec. 31, 2010. The couple have one son, Gunnar Gabriel, born Oct. 10, 2015.
