Malone has had the second longest tenure of any coach in ULM history, behind only storied coach Bob Groseclose. Over his head coaching career, Malone has coached a total of 239 all-conference athletes, 52 conference champions, 49 NCAA national qualifiers, and five academic All-Americans. He's also guided ULM student-athletes to 25 indoor and 13 outdoor school records. Malone is coming off one of his best seasons in 2015 which saw the Warhawks earn six gold medals at the Sun Belt Conference Championships outdoors, the most since 1995. ULM totaled 11 All-Conference student-athletes, including eight on the First-Team. Additionally, he coached senior Isaac Grieder to the school record in the heptathlon indoors and the decathlon outdoors. Grieder's decathlon score of 7,301 broke a 26-year ULM record and also the SBC Championships record. Malone also saw Nigel Cribbs break the school record in the 200m indoors with a time of 21.76. The year prior, Malone coached nine Outdoor All-Conference student-athletes including SBC Champion Jamel Sams in the 400m hurdles. He brought four with him to NCAA East Regionals where Sams was a national quarterfinalist where he finished three years in a row. Furthermore, Malone guided Grieder to the ULM heptathlon record after a first-place finish indoors and All-Conference First-Team accolades. In 2013, Malone coached Daniel Mutai to SBC Most Outstanding Track Performer and Top Meet Scorer honors. Three more Warhawks qualified to compete at the NCAA East Reginals including Clint Broussard (high jump), Sams (hurdles) and Martin Solomon (hurdles). Additionally, six ULM student-athletes earned All-Louisiana recognition. Malone guided the ULM men to a second-place finish in 2011 at the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships - its highest finish since joining the conference prior to the 2006-07 season - to earn Sun Belt Coach of the Year honors. The Warhawks finished with four conference champions and nine All-Sun Belt selections on the men's side, while senior Lakeitha Elmore won the shot put on the women's side. Richard McKay capped the season with a 13th-place finish in the javelin at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships, garnering second-team All-America honors. It marked the second straight year and the third time in four years that ULM has had a track & field All-American. In addition, ULM's Daniel Mutai became the first male athlete in school history to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships during the 2010 season. Mutai has earned All-Southeast Region the past three seasons, and qualified for his second national meet in 2011. Luther Ambrose became just the second All-American in school history in the 100-meter dash with a third-place finish at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Overall, the Warhawks had three Sun Belt Conference champions and two NCAA qualifiers during the outdoor season. ULM had a pair of NCAA qualifiers during the 2009 campaign in Heather Davis and McKay. For Davis it was her third consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships. The Warhawks had nine NCAA Regional qualifiers and also took home five titles at the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships. In 2008, Kyle Kent finished sixth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships to earn All-American honors. Also that season, Davis advanced to her second-straight NCAA Outdoor Championship in the high jump. Four Warhawk athletes won conference titles led by Davis' high jump championships in both the indoor and outdoor Sun Belt meets. Kent won the outdoor javelin and Destiny Montemayor claimed the Sun Belt title in the weight throw All told, 25 ULM track & field athletes took home all-conference honors during the 2007-08 season and four -- Davis, Kent, Montemayor and Tommy Tumey -- competed at the NCAA Outdoor Regionals. In ULM's first season in the highly competitive Sun Belt Conference, Malone coached three individual conference champions, 19 All-Conference performers and guided Davis to an appearance at the NCAA Championships in the high jump. The 2007 season saw the Warhawks send a school record eight athletes in 10 different events to the NCAA Mideast Outdoor Regional. He was named Louisiana Sports Writers Association Cross Country Coach of the Year in the fall of 2002, the same season the ULM women finished second at the Southland Conference Championships. Malone came to ULM from East Ascension High School in Gonzales where he served as head track and field and cross country coach for two seasons. While at East Ascension, Malone had a school record of nine athletes qualify for the 5A Louisiana State Track Meet also setting numerous school records. Beginning his coaching career at the University of Alabama in 1987 as a graduate assistant, he later moved to Louisiana Tech as an assistant coach in 1989. He helped coach the Bulldogs to the American South Conference title in 1990. He is a USTFCCA certified sprint, hurdle and relay event specialist and is also certified in sprints, hurdles in jumps at USATF Level 2. Malone is also certified in USA weightlifting sport performance. Malone graduated from Louisiana Tech with a bachelor's degree in mathematics education in 1986. He received his master's degree in the same subject from Alabama in 1991. Malone was a prep athlete at Ruston High, running the middle distances there and at Tech. Malone is married to the former Jennifer Bonin of Gonzales, La. They have two sons, Logan and Gannon. Malone also serves as a ULM FCA sponsor.

Jones coached four ULM throwers to NCAA East Regionals. In the javelin, he saw Joey Womack and Mi'ca Lowe sweep gold medals from both the men's and women's divisions at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships. Jones also coached Jevaughn Shaw to runner-up honors in the discus after his personal-record throw of 55.97m. Womack became a three-time All-Conference honoree, while Lowe and Shaw both earned All-Conference accolades for the second time in two years. Jones brought in a strong 2014 recruiting class of five that included a state champion and a national Jamaican champion. As a result, Jones coached Lowe to the NCAA East Regionals in the javelin and Shaw to the All-Conference Third-Team in the discus, both as freshmen. Lowe set a personal-record of 46.05m in the javelin at the SBC Championships while Shaw broke a pair of personal-records at the meet in the discus and shot put. Additionally, Jones coached Womack to All-Conference honors for the second year in a row after a second-place showing as a walk-on freshman. Isaac Grieder took third in the javelin in the same meet. Under Jones, the Warhawks excelled in 2014 in the javelin where Megan Caillouet finished fourth-place in conference, Blaine Armstrong fifth on the mens side. In the discus, Jones coached Gordon to a sixth-place showing at conference. Gordon went on to reach NCAA East Regionals the following year. ULM throwers have flourished under his tuteledge, and their success in 2012 cemented this. Richard McKay ranked 13th nationally in the javelin, qualifying for the Olympic Trials in the process and narrowly missed qualifying for the London Olympics. Marcie Richard was the Sun Belt Champion and a regional qualifier in the javelin, and Derek Dark was all-conference in the shot put. Jones had a stellar collegiate career at Louisiana Tech as he finished top five in school history in every throwing event. Jones earned All-WAC honors 15 times, including nine first team honors and also garnered Conference Field MVP accolades. He picked up All-America honors in the discus in 2011 with a throw of 57.15 meters at the NCAA Championships. He also set the school record in the javelin in 2008 with a throw of 66.85 meters, and was a three-time Outdoor WAC champion in the discus (2009, 2010 & 2011). A three-time district champion in the discus at Ruston High School, Jones was also the 2005 district champion for javelin. He claimed state championships in the discus in 2005 and 2006, setting the Louisiana 5A record in the process. A high school All-American selection, Jones was the 2005 National Junior Olympic Champion in the discus, and was named Mr. Field Louisiana in 2006.
