Mike Sirant

Head Coach

Sirant heads into his 21st season (1993-99, 2001-06, 2009-present) at the helm of the Manitoba Bisons mens hockey program. He has coached Manitoba into the conference playoffs in 17 of the 19 years so far in his coaching career at Manitoba. Last season, Sirant served as an Assistant Coach for the CIS National All Star team that competed in the inaugural series against Canadas National Junior team. The Winnipeg native was also an Associate Coach for the bronze medal Team Canada mens hockey team at the 2015 Winter Universiade in Spain. He also had the honour of serving as Head Coach for Canada's National Student Team, which won a bronze medal at the 1997 Winter Universiade (World Student Games) in South Korea. In the 2009-10 season, Sirant guided the Bisons back to the CIS National Championship (where the team finished in the top four in the country), their second Nationals visit in three seasons while Sirant coached at Manitoba. Sirant was named the Canada West Mens Hockey Coach of the Year for the 2009-10 season. This was the third time that Sirant has earned this conference honour winning the award also in 1995-96 and 2004-05. In the 2011-12 season, Sirant was at the helm when the Bisons captured their first Canada West regular season title in over 40 seasons. In addition, the Bisons went 17-7-4 the next season (2012-13), which represented the highest win total for a Manitoba mens hockey team since the 2000-01 season. Sirant had a three-year professional development leave from the University of Manitoba (2006-09) during which he was the Sports Director and Head Coach of the Danish National Ice Hockey Mens Team. While with the Danish National Team, Sirant guided the program to a tenth place finish at the 2007 World A Pool Championship in Moscow and a 12th place finish at the 2008 World Championship in Quebec City. At the time, the tenth place end result was the highest position ever for the Danish team at the World Championship. In 1999-2000, while on a professional development leave, Sirant coached VEU FeldKirch, Austria to a successful season in the International Eishockey League. He has also served as a guest coach at NHL training camps for the Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues. Sirant has earned a Masters Degree in Sports Management, and two Bachelor Degrees in Recreation Management, and Arts from the University of Manitoba.
