Larry Harmon
Head Coach

Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” - Joshua 1:9 Larry Harmon was promoted to Head Football Coach in January 2022 after spending the previous 20 seasons as the Cru’s defensive coordinator. Harmon guided the Cru to a 12-2 record in his first season at the helm as the Crusaders finished in the NCAA Division III Semifinals for the fifth time in program history. He also helped the Cru to an NCAA Quarterfinal finish in the 2024 season. During his tenure as defensive coordinator, the UMHB defense ranked among the nation’s best in total defense, scoring defense, rushing defense and pass efficiency defense. Under his direction, the Cru defense produced 18 ASC Defensive Players of the Year and four national defensive players of the year. UMHB also led the nation in rushing defense in 2006. In addition to his defensive coordinator duties, Coach Harmon also worked with UMHB’s kick return and kick coverage teams. He opened his career at UMHB in 1999, spending three years as UMHB’s secondary coach. Coach Harmon spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Northwest Missouri State prior to joining UMHB. He helped guide the Bearcats to the NCAA Division II national championship in 1998. Coach Harmon also spent one season as an assistant coach at South Dakota State before moving to Northwest Missouri. Coach Harmon is a 1995 graduate of South Dakota State University. He was a four-year letterman as a strong safety for the Jackrabbits football team. Larry and his wife, Sandi, have two children, Brett and Christopher. She graduated from UMHB with an exercise physiology degree in May 2025. Mya was also a four-year member of the Cru Acrobatics & Tumbling team, helping UMHB to a trio of NCATA DIII Tournament Championships and a pair of appearances at NCATA Nationals. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in sports administration from UMHB.

Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun." - Ecclesiastes 8:15 Jordan was promoted to Secondary Coach in Spring 2024 after spending the 2023 season as a graduate assistant coach. He was a three-time all-Southern Athletic Association selection in both football and track at Berry College. Jordan graduated with a degree in sports administration from Berry in 2022. He has also served as cornerbacks coach and recruiting coordinator at Paulding County High School in Georgia. Jordan is the son of Derrick and Yolinda Wilson.

Matthew Oubre

Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." - Deuteronomy 31:6 Matthew Oubre joined the Cru in April 2025. He came to UMHB after three years as assistant offensive line coach at Texas Christian University. Oubre coached two first-team all-conference, one second-team all-conference, six honorable mention all-conference and one first-team all-America selection during his time with the Horned Frogs. He also helped TCU to a Fiesta Bowl championship and National Championship Finalist finish in 2022. Prior to TCU, Oubre spent one season with Texas A&M-Kingsville, where he was an active recruiter and coached a pair of all-conference athletes. Oubre also served as offensive line graduate assistant at University of Louisiana-Monroe for one season and Lamar University for two seasons. Oubre was a center for both University of Louisiana-Monroe and Lamar University, earning team captain, all-conference and Leadership Council awards during his tenure. He earned a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in General Studies from Lamar University in 2016 and a Master of Science in Kinesiology from Lamar University in 2020. Oubre is originally from Dayton, Texas. He and his wife, Makensie, have one son, Maddux.

Bryan Hicks
Coach
Bryan Hicks joined the Cru in May 2026. Hicks came to UMHB after a one-year stint at his alma mater, Southwestern University. Hicks opened his coaching career as offensive coordinator at St. Dominic Savio High School. He went from there to Cypress Ridge High School, then to Katy Paetow. Hicks also played professional in the Indoor Football League and National Arena League, breaking the single-game record for passing touchdowns with nine. Hicks played at Southwestern for four seasons, leading the program in attempts (825), completions (473), yards (5,515) and touchdowns (40). He was also a big part of the historic 2016 team who won the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship. Hicks earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Southwestern University in 2017.
