Barry Elkins

Head Coach

Favorite Verse: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men." - Colossians 3:23 Barry Elkins became the head women's soccer coach at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in April of 2012 and quickly turned the Cru women's program around. Elkins guided the Cru to the program's first American Southwest Conference regular-season title and first-ever ASC championships in 2022. The Cru set a new mark for wins in a season with a 17-1-1 record and advanced to the NCAA postseason for the second time in program history. Elkins was also voted American Southwest Conference Coach of the Year and United Soccer Coaches Region X Coach of the Year after the 2022 campaign. The Cru continued making waves in the 2023 season, earning the ASC Regular Season Champions title and advancing to the NCAA postseason. UMHB earned the program's first right to host the NCAA Tournament that season. Elkins was also voted ASC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year.  The UMHB job was a homecoming for Elkins, a UMHB graduate and four-year letterman for the Cru men’s soccer program. Elkins now has a 132-46-16 overall record in eleven seasons as the UMHB head women's soccer coach. He has also recruited and coached all four of the programs all-Americans.  Elkins returned to his alma mater after a successful 13-year run as head girls’ soccer coach at Belton High School. He compiled a 243-63-29 record during his time at Belton and guided the Lady Tigers to ten district championships and 13 straight playoff berths. Elkins compiled a 21-13 playoff record, was a five-time District Coach of the Year and earned Super CenTex Coach of the Year honors in 2008. He has coached a state semifinalist, 24 All-Region players and a pair of All-State selections during his time with Belton High School girls’ soccer. Elkins started his coaching career as an assistant coach at Temple High School and also worked as a teacher at Travis Middle School in Temple. Elkins graduated from UMHB in 1997 with a degree in Physical Education. He was a four-year letterman for the Cru men’s soccer team, serving as team captain and winning team Defensive Player of the Year honors. Elkins was a dual-sport athlete for the Cru, also earning three letters for the UMHB men’s tennis team. He is a native of Harlingen, Texas.
