Melissa Mojica
Head Coach
Melissa Mojica was promoted to head coach of the UMHB softball team in June of 2020. She guided the Cru to a 27-14 mark and an ASC Runners-Up finish in her first season at the helm. Mojica followed that with a 32-11 record in 2022, guiding the Cru to a top 10 national ranking. UMHB won the program's first ASC Regular Season Championship under Mojica's leadership in the 2023 season. The Cru advanced to the championship game of the ASC Softball Championship Tournament and also earned the right to host the program's first NCAA Division III Softball Regional. UMHB finished the 2023 season with a 35-14 mark, tying the program's record for wins in a season.The Cru put together three consecutive 20+ wins seasons in 2024, 2025 and 2026, advancing to the ASC title match in 2026. Mojica helped the Cru to a 115-70 record in her five-year tenure as assistant coach. The Cru advanced to four ASC championship tournaments and finished the abbreviated 2020 season ranked tenth in the country. Mojica spent nine seasons as an assistant softball coach at her alma mater West High School. The Lady Trojans won six district championships and appeared in four state tournaments during her tenure. Mojica also coached volleyball and basketball during her time at West. Mojica is a 2005 graduate of Baylor University and she was a two-year letter winner and starter for the Baylor softball team. She played for two NCAA Tournament qualifiers with the Bears and her game-winning double against North Carolina as a junior gave Baylor the first NCAA postseason victory in the history of the Bears softball program. Mojica was also an All-American softball player at Temple College. She played for two Texas Junior College Northern Conference Championships under former UMHB Head Coach Larry Hennig with the Leopards. Mojica and her husband, David, were married in 2019. The couple has four daughters, Savannah, Avery, Tagen and Mack. Leah Guest
Assistant Coach
Leah Guest is in her fourth year as assistant coach for the UMHB softball program. Guest spent the 2020 season as a volunteer assistant coach at Baylor University before returning to her alma mater. Guest was a four-year starter at third base for the Cru. She was a two-time NFCA All-American, three-time all-region selection and four-time All-American Southwest Conference honoree. Guest is the all-time UMHB record holder in home runs (34), RBI (159), runs (142), hits (217), total bases (381) and slug percentage (.726). She was a state champion and all-state softball player at Crawford High School, where she also participated in volleyball, basketball and track. Guest spent the 2018 season as an assistant softball coach at the University of Texas at Tyler before coming back to UMHB to serve as a volunteer assistant coach during the 2019 season. Leah and her husband, Taylor, welcomed their daughter, Sophie, in July 2022.

Ashlyn Wachtendorf
Assistant Coach
Ashlyn joined the Cru after graduating with a degree in Kinesiology in 2025 from Baylor University, where she played four years of softball. During her time at Baylor, she was named academic champion in 2023. She also has prior coaching experience with a travel softball organization out of Waco. Ashlyn is the daughter of Jeff and Cassie and has a younger brother, Tyler.
