Sarah Dalsey

Head Coach

Sarah Dalsey begins her second season as head women's lacrosse coach at the University of Mary Washington, after a successful 10-8 mark in 2026. "I am incredibly honored to serve as head women's lacrosse coach at the University of Mary Washington", said Dalsey. "I want to sincerely thank Director of Athletics Patrick Catullo for this incredible opportunity and for believing in my vision for the program. UMW has a proud tradition of academic and athletic excellence, and I'm excited to lead this talented group of young women as we build on that legacy. Go Eagles!" Dalsey came to UMW from Linfield University, where she has served as women's lacrosse head coach since 2022-23. She oversaw a Wildcat program that advanced to the 2025 Northwest Conference Tournament – a first for the program. She guided her teams at Linfield to 17 wins in her tenure. In addition, she provided support to the athletic director with game day operations, as well as major events in the athletic department. She has also served since 2022 as Director of Xcelerate Sports Girl's Lacrosse camps, developing the program to increase participation in the game of lacrosse, and directed coaching and staff development. Prior to her work at Linfield, she coached four years as an assistant coach at Adrian College and McDaniel College, assisting with practice development, operations, recruiting, and strength and conditioning programs. She has coached at successful camps at McDaniel as well as Pace University, and worked in administrative roles at McDaniel and Manhattanville College. She has coached top club programs in New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut. A four-year standout at Division III Manhattanville, she gained MAC Freedom all-conference honors, as well as academic all-conference accolades while ranking as Manhattanville's all-time leader in draw controls (200) and caused turnovers (80), while ranking ninth in ground balls (132) and 10th in goals (94).

Moore, one of the greatest players in University of Mary Washington womens lacrosse history, returned to her alma mater as the head womens lacrosse coach, with great results. Moore, who had coached three seasons at Randolph-Macon College, replaced her college coach, Dana Hall, who was promoted to Senior Associate Director of Athletics. Moore has brought the Eagles back to national prominence, advancing to the third round of the NCAA Tournament with a 15-5 record this spring. She was named as the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association's College Division Coach of the Year. "She is a perfect fit for our program and is a rising star in the coaching profession", said UMW Director of Athletics Ken Tyler. "She helped lead the UMW women's lacrosse team to multiple NCAA tournaments as an outstanding player and assistant coach, and we believe she will take us to even greater heights as our head coach." Tyler added, "Coach Moore did a phenomenal job at Randolph-Macon, steadily building that program into a consistent winner. More importantly, she is a positive mentor and role model for the young women she coaches. Caitlin Moore will be an outstanding leader for our women's lacrosse program and a real asset to the University. It's a great day to be an Eagle!" Moores star was on the rise after turning around the program at Randolph-Macon. After being hired prior to the 2011 season, Moores first squad finished with a 7-10 record, and followed with an 8-10 mark in 2012. The 2013 season saw the Yellow Jackets improve to 12-6, winning their first eight games. For her efforts, Moore was named as a finalist for the IWLCA Region Coach of the Year. "I am extremely honored to be the women's lacrosse coach at the University of Mary Washington, said Moore. It is a privilege to be back at my alma mater and I look forward to starting this new chapter. Moore arrived in Ashland after a two-year stint as an assistant coach with her alma mater. Moore helped lead the Eagles to 28 wins over her two years on the sidelines in Fredericksburg. The 2010 squad advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament and finished the season ranked 12th in the nation. In 2009, UMW posted 14 wins, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, and was ranked 18th in the nation at the close of the season. Moore joined Hall's staff in 2008 after completing one of the most brilliant careers in school history. She graduated as the Mary Washington career leader in points (303), while being the single season record holder in points with 143, and assists with 81. Moore also held single game records for assists (10) and points (14). A two-time All-CAC choice and All-Region selection, Moore was a consensus All-American in 2008, after she led the nation in assists per game and points per game as a senior, breaking the NCAA Division III record for points per game with 7.94. Moore helped UMW to NCAA Tournament appearances in 2006 and 2007. In addition to her lacrosse duties, Moore also served as an assistant coach for the field hockey program in 2008-09. The Eagles won 34 games in her two plus seasons. Originally from Cypress, Texas, Moore graduated from Mary Washington with a degree in business administration in 2008 and her MBA in 2012. She and her husband Ray, a former baseball standout at UMW and current varsity baseball coach at Douglas Freeman High School, reside in Glen Allen, Va. They have one daughter, Mary Grace (1). Annika Benson

Assistant Coach

Annika Benson joins the University of Mary Washington women’s lacrosse coaching staff for the 2024-2025 season, bringing with her eight years of coaching experience in the Fredericksburg area. Throughout her career, she has worked with various high school and club teams, specializing in both lacrosse and volleyball. Benson played lacrosse at Bridgewater College (VA) for five years and served as team captain during the 2023-2024 season. Her academic achievements include a Master’s Degree in Psychology, which she earned in 2024, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Exercise Science, completed in 2023. Annika is passionate about developing players' skills and fostering a positive team environment, and she looks forward to contributing to the success of UMW women’s lacrosse.

Lindsey Heppner

Assistant Coach

Lindsey Heppner returns to assist the University of Mary Washington field hockey staff as an assistant coach for the 2020 season.Heppner, a local product that starred at Stafford High School, played collegiately at Division I University of Delaware. She was a four-year starting defender, gaining CAA National Honor Roll and NFHCA National Academic team honors. She received her BS in Accounting/Management Information Systems.Heppner played on the US Women's Indoor National Team from 2013-2014, and has been coaching in the area for 10 years at both the high school and competitive club level as well as in the USA Futures program. She helped lead James Monroe High School to back to back state championships.She is married to Matt Heppner who is a Fire Fighter/Paramedic and is also a graduate of the University of Delaware where he was a four-year pitcher for the baseball team. She is employed by 6 Bears and a Goat Brewing Company, where she does accounting and event management.She and her husband have two children - Stella (4) and Easton (1).
