Delmar "Buck" Carey

Associate Head Coach

Delmar "Buck" Carey enters year two at UMBC in 2025-26 as the program's Associate Head Coach. Carey helped the program to a 14-15 record in 2024-25 leading the charge on a defense that ranked in the top 65 in the country in scoring defense. UMBC also held opponents to 28.1 percent from three, good for 37th nationally.  Carey came to UMBC after serving as an assistant coach for the Austin Peay women’s basketball program in 2023-24. The Governors posted a 17-16 record.  Carey spent the 2022-23 season as associate head coach at Morehead State. During his year in Morehead, Kentucky, the Eagles had a 10-game improvement from 2021-22 and won six games in Ohio Valley Conference play after going 0-18 in conference action the year prior. Morehead State also earned its first postseason win since 2019 after defeating UT Martin in the first round of the OVC Tournament this season. Prior to his time on the Eagles’ coaching staff, Carey was an assistant coach at Stony Brook where he served on a staff that helped lead the Seawolves to a 23-7 record which included Power Five wins against Rutgers and Washington State. During his time in Stony Brook, New York, Carey helped coach India Pagan and Nairimar Vargas-Reyes. Pagan was a two-time America East All-Conference selection and a silver medalist with the Puerto Rican National Team at the 2021 FIBA AmericCup. Vargas-Reyes went on to join play as a member of the 2022 Puerto Rico National Team.  Carey was an assistant coach for Kelvin Long Jr. at North Greenville during the 2020-21 season and helped lead the Crusaders to their first winning record in Conference Carolinas play since 2012. He served as the athletic director and head girls’ basketball coach at Whittle School and Studios in Washington, D.C., in 2019-20 and served as the director and head coach of the Nike 16U EYBL Team Takeover AAU program from 2016-20. Carey began his coaching career on the men’s side where he was an assistant coach at his alma mater of Bowie State (2010-14, 15-17) and Tuskgee (2014). He graduated with his bachelor’s degree in communications from Bowie State in 2010.

Reggie Daniels

Assistant Coach

Reggie Daniels enters his second season on Coach Candice Hill's staff at UMBC after a 14-15 record in 2024-25. The Retrievers picked up five non-conference wins, the most in a decade for the program. UMBC saw stark statistical improvements in three-point percentage, free-throw percentage, assists, and turnovers in year one under the staff.  Daniels came to the Hilltop after spending the 2023-24 season as the head coach at Divison II Chestnut Hill. In his lone season at the helm, Daniels guided the Griffins to a 20-9 record and their first ever Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship game appearance. A 2015 graduate of Hood College, Daniels joined Chestnut Hill after serving as an assistant women's basketball coach at Binghamton University in 2022-23.  At Binghamton he served as the program's recruiting coordinator along with coordinating individual workouts and player development. Prior to joining the Bearcats, Daniels was the head coach at FDU-Florham during the 2021-22 season. He oversaw all aspects of the Devils' program during his tenure. The previous two seasons (2019-21), Daniels was an assistant coach at Stevenson University. During that span, he helped lead the Mustangs to 20 wins as well as appearances in the semifinal round of both the MAC Commonwealth and ECAC Tournaments. From 2017-19, Daniels was a graduate assistant coach for the women's basketball team at his alma mater. With the Blazers, Daniels assisted in all areas, including recruiting, game video breakdown, game planning, travel logistics and social media. Daniels also worked with the Maryland Belles 2020 AAU team during the 2018-19 season. Before entering the college coaching level, Daniels was a coach at Patterson Mill High School from 2015-17. He served as the head coach of the boys' JV team and as an assistant on the boys' varsity team during that time. Daniels played at Hood College from 2011-15. He ranks second in program history with 136 blocks and 105 games played.

Maggie Tien

Assistant Coach

An Assistant Coach and the program's Recruiting Coordinator, Maggie Tien joined the UMBC staff prior to the 2024-25 season. The Retrievers won 14 games in 2024-25, tying the most wins in just under a decade for the program. In 2025-26, the team will feature four freshman and four transfers.  Tien joins UMBC as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator after spending the past three seasons at Mount St. Mary's. Initially the Director of Operations for two years, Tien earned a promotion to Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator ahead of the 2023-24 season.  Originally from nearby Gaithersburg, Tien competed for Hood College and Washington Adventist as an undergraduate. As a senior for the Shock, she was an almost exclusive three-point threat, with 138 of her 159 attempts coming from beyond-the-arc. Her 30.4 shooting percentage from downtown helped guide Washington Adventist to an 18-12 mark during the 2019-2020 season. Her career at Hood spanned two seasons, participating in 37 games with 34 starts. In her junior season with the Blazers, Tien ranked second on the team with 9.4 points and an average of 2.52 treys per contest. That season also saw her reach a career high of 20 points, going 7-for-14 from the floor in a game with Lebanon Valley.

Tolu Omokore

UMBC Women's Basketball announced the hiring of Tolu Omokore as the Retrievers new Director of Basketball Operations on May 22, 2025. Omokore comes to Hilltop Circle after spending the previous two seasons at nearby Coppin State where she was the Director of Operations and Player Development in September 2023.  "I'm incredibly thankful for the opportunity to join the UMBC Women's Basketball program," said Omokore. "The transition has been so smooth, and I truly appreciate how warmly I've been welcomed by Coach Candice and the entire staff. I'm excited to contribute to the team's success and work alongside such a passionate and dedicated group."  Born in Nigeria, Tolu was raised in Maryland and led Eleanor Roosevelt High School to a pair of State Championships before receiving a scholarship to attend the University of Central Florida. Omokore played in 86 games over three seasons for the Knights, averaging nearly five points and five rebounds in her career.  During the 2016-17 season, she put up a career-high 7.4 points and 6.2 rebounds.   Omokore also interned with the UCF athletic department during her tenure while serving in various capacities with the Orlando Magic, NBA and Black Women in Sport Foundation.   In the Devos Sport Business Management program at UCF, she earned her MBA and MSBM in 2020 after earning a bachelor's degree in human sciences and a minor in sports business management in 2019.
