Stanton as the third head coach of the Corsairs mens lacrosse program. Shaun has an extensive coaching background and his familiarity with Little East Conference lacrosse and the student-athletes in the program. It will make for a smooth transition, said Van Voorhis. His values related to the team concept and hard work are the cornerstones of a successful program. I'm impressed with his philosophy of the role that sport plays in developing the lives of young men. Stanton inherits a UMass Dartmouth squad that has made 15-consecutive appearances in the Little East Conference Championship tournament. Last season, the Corsairs posted an 8-9 record, including a 4-3 mark against conference opponents with Stanton in place as the offensive coordinator of the team. Prior to his arrival in Dartmouth, Stanton took over a young program at St. Sebastians School in Needham, Mass. in the spring of 1985 and guided the team to their first winning season. During his tenure, the program expanded and improved significantly, and presently the Arrows consistently finish near the top of the Independent School League (ISL). In 1999, Coach Stanton surpassed 100 career wins, and 11 years later he reached the 200-win mark. Stanton was tabbed ISL Coach of the Year twice, in 1998 and 2004, and Man of the Year in 2003. While guiding the Arrows, has coached three All-Americans, two Academic-All-Americans, and close to a hundred All-ISL players. St. Sebastians Peter Burke, class of 2010, was selected ISL Player of the Year, All-America, Boston Globe All-Scholastic as well as MVP of the North-South Senior All-Star game. Stanton graduated from Boston College in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts with a focus in History and Philosophy. He also earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of St. Marys in 2010. While at Boston College, he was a four-year member of the Eagles mens lacrosse team, serving as a captain in the 1984 season. Stanton teaches modern European history and geography at St. Sebastians, and is an ordained minister. He resides in Dartmouth with his wife and three sons.
