University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth Men's Tennis

Rathlev, the 11th man to lead the men's tennis program, replaced Tom Mendell who retired after 13 years at the helm. "I am pleased to announce Karsten Rathlev as our next head men's tennis coach," Van Voorhis said.  "Karsten served as the assistant men's tennis coach in Spring, 2014, and was highly endorsed by current and past players as an individual that is capable of moving the program forward.  His teaching ability, enthusiasm, and the command he has with this particular group of players is a recipe for success." One of the most decorated student-athletes in program history, Rathlev was the first student-athlete in program history to earn the coveted Little East Conference Player of the Year award twice in his career (2011 and 2013). The eight-time All-Little East Conference selection posted an impressive career singles record of 39-5 (.886) and a doubles mark of 38-7 (.844).  Between 2011 and 2013, Rathlev sported a combined 27-4 record at the top-flight position, including a 16-1 mark against conference opponents. The two-time captain led UMass Dartmouth to two 13-win seasons, three Little East Conference tournament championships, and three appearances in the NCAA Division III tournament.  In 2009, Rathlev won a pair of matches to help the Corsairs earn a 5-2 victory over Neumann University (Pa.) in the first round of the NCAA tournament, marking the program's first and only win in the national field.  The Winchester, Mass. native has been serving as a tennis instructor since 2006 at various tennis clubs and has been responsible for teaching all ages and levels of play, providing private lessons and group clinics. Most recently, Rathlev has been promoted to Head Tennis Pro at the Willowbend of Cape Cod, in Mashpee, Mass., during the summers. Throughout the rest of the year, Rathlev also teaches tennis at the Marion indoor tennis club located in Marion, Mass. Karsten still competes in tournaments year-round and as of May 2015, he was ranked #6 in New England in the Men's Open Division.
