Grove the Cougars will be looking to win their seventh regular season UMAC Championship, and make back-to-back apperances in the NCAA tournament. Last year the Cougars won the UMAC Tournament on the road at Northwestern in dramatic fashion before moving on to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history. 2014-15 In the ninth season under Coach Grove the team finished the season as Co-UMAC Champions and won the UMAC Conference tournament moving on to the NCAA tournement for the third time under Grove's leadership. The Cougars had five players recieve All Conference Honors, with Kendra Wycoff being named Player of the Year. He picked up his 100th UMAC confernce win during the year. 2013-14 The Cougars were 13-1 in the UMAC, picking up their fifth straight regular season UMAC title. According to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association the University of Minnesota, Morris women's basketball team finished the 2013-14 academic year with 3.527 GPA, finishing the year tied for the 13 best GPA in NCAA Division III, which shows the teams dedication to academic excellence. The Cougars Kendra Wycoff was the lone 1 team All-Conference player, Abby Fragodt was the lone 2 team All-Conference player, while Emily Auch and Tori Holt both earned Honorable Mention All-Conference honors. Cori Becker and Abby Fragodt were both named to the UMAC All-Defensive team. 2012-13 Coach Grove lead the Cougars to a perfect 14-0 in the UMAC, as well as being voted coach of the year in the UMAC. In 2011-12 Grove led the Cougars to a third straight regular season UMAC title going 18-9 and 12-2 in the conference. He coached two All-UMAC First Team players in Jenni Noordmans and Emily Mehr. Kendra Wycoff was named the Co-Freshman of the Year. He was named the UMAC Coach of the Year for the third time in his career in 2011-12.  After leading the Cougars to their first UMAC title in 2010, he did one better in 2011, guiding the Cougars to a perfect 14-0 conference record while sweeping the regular season and tournament championships. The Cougars advanced to the NCAA Tournament after each season, earning an at-large berth in 2010, before winning the UMACs automatic qualifier in 2011. Groves teams have consistently improved throughout his tenure culminating a 21-7 season in 2010, with a 14-0 mark in conference play and the program's second UMAC title. He became the All-Time winningest coach for the women's basketball program during the 2010-11 season.  In 2009-10 and 2010-11 the Cougars ran off a 27-1 stretch in UMAC play, winning 27 consecutive conference games, dating back to the league opener in the 2009-10 season. All-five of his starters earned All-UMAC recognition in 2010-11, led by All-American and conference Player of the Year Steph Roggenbuck. Brandi Cresap was named Second Team All-Conference, with Emily Mehr and Tara Thielke named Honorable Mention and Jenni Noordmans earning All-Defensive Team status. Along with their first conference title, Groves 2009-10 Cougars qualified for their first NCAA Division III Tournament, earning an at-large berth.  He mentored four players to All-UMAC honors that season, including First Team honoree Steph Roggenbuck and Freshman of the Year Emily Mehr. His team won 14 straight games to end the regular season, capping their 13-1 UMAC record, becoming the only team in the last decade to finish the UMAC season with just one loss. Groves teams have qualified for the UMAC tournament in each of his previous four seasons, advancing to the championship game for the first time in 2007, before earning NCAA berths the last two seasons. Prior to coming to UMM, Grove was the head boys basketball coach at Long Prairie-Grey Eagle High School from 2002-2006. His head coaching career began with rebuilding a struggling Rainy River Community College (International Falls, Minn.) mens basketball program. After inheriting a program that canceled its 1999-2000 season, he led the Voyageurs to the Minnesota Community College Conference State Tournament in 2002. Grove also served as assistant coach of a very successful mens basketball program at Mayville State (N.D.). There he had the opportunity to work closely under then head coaches Tim Miles (current Nebraska men's head coach) in 1996, and older brother Paul Grove (current UMM mens basketball head coach) in 1998 & 1999. He received his Masters Degree in Kinesiology from the University of North Dakota in 1999, after completing his undergraduate work at Fergus Falls Community College and Mayville State University. A standout athlete, Grove was team captain in basketball and football for the Mayville State Comets. He also excelled off the court and was recognized as an Academic All-American in mens basketball in 1995, and was Mayville States Student of the Year. A native of Grey Eagle, Minn., he becomes the fourth Grove to pass through the doors of the Minnesota, Morris P.E. Center, joining Morris current head mens coach Paul Grove, their younger brother, Josh, who played basketball at UMM and graduated in 2005 and older brother Chris who played Cougar football in the early 1990s.
