Troy Halterman

Head Coach

Halterman enters his second season with the UMSL womens golf program in 2016-17. Halterman was named Director of Golf Operations in October 2016 and also enters his eighth year overseeing the Tritons' men's golf program. In his first year with the women's team, UMSL earned its seventh straight NCAA Regional Tournament bid. The Tritons also earned a runner-up finish at the GLVC Championships and won three tournament titles, while finishing second in three other tournaments. On the men's side, Halterman is a three-time GLVC Coach of the Year (2016, 2015, 2011) and three-time GCAA Midwest Region Coach of the Year (2015, 2013, 2011). His teams have made five NCAA Regional Tournament appearances, including three trips to the NCAA Championships. Halterman played collegiately at Oklahoma State from 1991-1993 and at Kansas State from 1993-1996. While playing at Oklahoma State, he had the opportunity to learn from legendary golf coach, Mike Holder, who has won 10 NCAA Championships. At Kansas State, Halterman was a First Team All-Big 8 selection and twice was named an All-American Scholar. He was also a three-time Academic All-Big 8 honoree. Halterman graduated from Kansas State in 1995 with a bachelor of science in journalism. In 1998, Halterman began working as a club professional. He has spent time in Hilton Head Island, S.C. and Kansas City. In the Kansas City area he was assistant professional at Wolf Creek Golf Club and Kansas City Country Club. He spent 2007-08 as the Head Professional at Oakwood Country Club in Kansas City. Halterman spent 12 years in competitive golf, where he had an accomplished professional career. After graduating college he played professionally on the Prairie Tour, Hooters Tour and Golden Bear Tour. He also played in the PGA Tour qualifying tournament. Since becoming a PGA professional in 2001 he continued to compete in PGA sectional tournaments in both the Midwest and Gateway sections. He qualified for five National PGA Assistant Professional Championships and two National PGA Club Professional Championships. During his time as a club professional, Halterman won numerous section and national PGA events. He was awarded the 2007 Presidents Plaque by the Midwest Section PGA for his contributions to player development and growth of the game. He regained his amateur status in May 2013. Halterman and his wife Gail have two children, Will and Nick.
