Tommy Barksdale

Head Coach

Barksdale's guidance. Barksdale guided the Falcons during their inaugural season in 2013. Barksdale coached a pair of athletes who earned All-Peach Belt Conference status at the inaugural championship meet, including one athlete who was named the programs first ever womens track and field Athlete of the Week. Barksdale also coached two athletes who were named to the conferences All-Academic team, as well as one athlete who was named to the CoSIDA All-District 3 academic team. Barksdale came to Montevallo after spending the previous two seasons as head cross country and track and field coach at Division I Morehead State University. Prior to his time at MSU he spent two seasons as assistant coach at Division I Troy University, one season as an assistant at Wallace State Community College and one season as a volunteer assistant coach here at Montevallo as he helped get the womens program started. During his time at MSU, coach Barksdale helped 33 athletes set personal bests in cross country and 37 athletes hit personal records in outdoor track. Both of his teams placed in the top-6 at the Ohio Valley Conference championships during his tenure. His teams won two conference Sportsmanship Awards and earned two All-Academic team honors from USTFCCCA. While at Troy he helped guide both the mens and womens cross country teams to top-seven finishes at the Conference Championships. He guided both teams to All-Academic Team awards during his time as well. During his stay at Wallace State the team had two NJCAA Indoor All-Americans and three Outdoor All-Americans. The mens cross country team finished as the Region XXII Runners-up. As an athlete, Barksdale competed at Bevill State Community College for two years before transferring to Division I Mississippi State University. While at Bevill State he was team captain of the NJCAA National Championship winning team, he was named All-Region and was elected as a representative to the USOC Running Camp. Barksdale graduated from Mississippi State University with a bachelors of arts in political science in 2002. He is USA Track and Field Level I certified and took part in the USTFCCCA Convention in 2010 and the Super Distance Summit in 2010 and 2011.

Julia Marquardt

Associate Head Coach

Marquardt helped guide the Falcons during their inaugural season in 2013. Marquardt helped coach a pair of athletes who earned All-Peach Belt Conference status at the inaugural championship meet, including one athlete who was named the programs first ever womens track and field Athlete of the Week. Marquardt also helped coach two athletes who were named to the conferences All-Academic team, as well as one athlete who was named to the CoSIDA All-District 3 academic team. Marquardt is a 2006 graduate of Birmingham-Southern College. Marquardt currently resides in Calera with her husband Michael and their three children, Owen, Elise and Will.

Chad Balentine

Assistant Coach

Balentine helped coach Jacksonville State to the Ohio Valley Conference Championship in his lone season at the school. Balentine also spent two years as an assistant coach at Birmingham-Southern College before heading to Jacksonville State. Balentine helped Birmingham-Southern claim a pair of conference championships and the school made two appearances in the NCAA Division III National Championship during his tenure. Balentine coached one All-American at Birmingham-Southern. Balentine served as the Head Track and Field Coach at Bevill State Community College for two years before his stop at Birmingham-Southern. At Bevill State, Balentine coached seven All-Americans and six Academic All-Americans while guiding the program to the National Championship in both indoor and outdoor during his tenure. Balentine got his start in the field as a graduate assistant coach at Troy University during the 2008-09 academic year. Balentine received his Bachelor of Science degree in Human Environmental Sciences from the University of Alabama in August 2007.
