Charlie Burch
Head Coach
14th season as UNE Head Coach (2026) [Year-by-Year] Charlie Burch and UNE men's lacrosse team matched the best six-game start (5-1) in program history in 2020, before the season was halted. He has led the Nor'easters to an 104-120 record over 14 years. In both 2013 and 2017, he guided the squad to a program-record 14 wins (14-5), and each time, received the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Coach of the Year honor from his peers. Those two seasons also featured a 6-2 conference ledger, and are included in UNE's only three trips to the semifinals of the league championship -- all during Burch's tenure. The 2013 campaign culminated with the Nor'easters claiming the ECAC New England Championship. Check out this August 2020 Spotlight on Burch... Burch served the men's lacrosse program for four years as assistant coach and defensive coordinator prior to taking over, which came after logging a combined 24 seasons as head coach at Cape Elizabeth High School and then Kennebunk High School (12 each). His teams amassed a record of 289-102-1, and captured nine Maine State Class A Championships titles (in 13 finals appearances). Burch is a six-time recipient of Maine's Coach of the Year honor, and in 2009 earned the distinction of U.S. Lacrosse Man of the Year. In October 2025, he was inducted into the National Interscholastic Lacrosse Coaches Association (NILCA) Hall of Fame as a testament to the sustained success at the high school level. Coming out of college, he also spent a year each as an assistant coach at Bates College [NCAA III] and Colby College [NCAA III]. Burch played four seasons at Colby and was a captain for the Mules, while attaining a bachelor's degree (1977) in history. He later earned a master's degree in American and New England studies from the University of Southern Maine in 1995. Burch and his wife, Mim, reside in Kennebunk. He has two stepsons currently leading programs at the NCAA Division I level -- Nick, the head coach at The Ohio State University since 2008 and an All-America performer at Springfield College [NCAA III], and Pat, the head coach at Lafayette College since 2018 and an all-league player at OSU before playing professionally for the Boston Cannons.
