Joanne Berglund

Head Coach

Berglund (formerly Steele) was named the first head coach for the UNF Womens Golf program in May of 2011. In just three seasons under Berglund, the Ospreys have already produced some historic moments including a runner-up finish at the 2015 Atlantic Sun Championship. Additionally, UNF posted six Top 5 finishes during the 2014-15 season.  Under her guidance, Osprey golfers have collected 14 rounds under par and produced a trio of All-Atlantic Sun (second team performers) and three ASun All-Freshman honorees. UNF golfers have also shined off the course boasting several members on the WGCA All-American Scholars list. Berglund came to UNF after serving 15 years as the head womens golf coach for the University of Montana. She was an assistant coach for the Grizzlies for one season before earning the head position and was part of the UM program for 16 of its 18 years of existence. During her tenure, the Grizzlies posted 11 top-five finishes at the Big Sky Conference championship, including the last eight. Montana won the league title in 2006, the programs first, and had runner-up finishes in both 2002 and 05. Berglund coached the Big Sky Player of the Year in 2002 while also guiding a pair of golfers to Big Sky Championship medalist showings. All in all, she produced 17 All-Big Sky Conference golfers. Academically, Berglunds teams captured the annual UM Director of Athletics Award four times as the program with the departments highest cumulative GPA. She had 52 student-athletes on the Academic All-Big Sky Conference team. Berglund was recognized by her coaching peers in 2006 as the Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Grizzlies to their conference title and an NCAA Regional appearance. Diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a genetic thickening of the walls of the heart, in 2000, Steele underwent a heart transplant at the University of Washington Medical Center in September 2006, less than five months after leading the Grizzlies to their Big Sky Conference championship. A graduate of Jacksonville University, Berglund was a four-year letterwinner for the Dolphins from 1990-93. She captained the JU golf team for three years while earning three All-Sun Belt Conference honors. Berglund won three in-season tournaments in her collegiate career and placed second at the 1993 Sun Belt Conference championship and fourth at the 1992 conference meet. A four-year member of the Jacksonville Presidents List for academic success, Berglund graduated magna cum laude in 1993 with a degree in sociology. She was also inducted into JUs Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011. Prior to joining the Montana coaching staff, Berglund, who grew up in Helena, Mont., worked as an assistant golf professional at the Green Meadow Country Club in Helena, and the Amelia Island Plantation Resort in Amelia Island, Fla. Berglund has continued to play competitive golf, winning both the 2001 and 09 Montana Womens Amateur titles. She was the tournament runner-up in 2002 and 03. She is a member of the 2009 Montana State Women's Amateur Hall of Fame class. She has two daughters, Alexis and Sydnie. She married Bo Berglund on July 26, 2014. Marion Detlefsen

Assistant Coach

Detlefsen joined the North Florida women's golf program as an assistant coach in August of 2015. Detlefsen came to UNF after working as a golf professional for over 25 years in and around Jacksonville. Her most recent position saw her serving as the PGA Head Professional at Eagle Harbor Golf Club for the past 10 years. She also was the head coach for the St. Johns Country Day School varsity girls golf team from 2011-14. A 1993 graduate of Jacksonville University, Detlefsen was a four-year (1989-93) Dolphin teammate of current Osprey head coach Joanne Berglund. Her JU career included a pair of tournament medalist honors and a team MVP award during her senior campaign. In addition, Detlefsen became the first JU women's golfer to compete in an NCAA Division I Regional in May of 1993. Born in Cochabamba, Bolivia, Detlefsen moved to Baltimore, Md., with her family at the age of 14 looking for improved educational and golfing opportunities. As a junior amateur, she captured several tournament crowns in the Northeast. Following a decorated playing career at JU, she began her professional association with golf wroking as the assistant golf professional at Eagle Harbor in October of 1993. For the next five years, Detlefsen continued to play tournament events. She obtained her PGA Class A Professional Certification in 1998 and then was promoted to the head pro spot at Eagle Harbor in 2000. Detlefsen and her husband, John, have been residents of Eagle Harbor in Fleming Island, Fla., since 1996, and are the proud parents of two children -- daughter, Alisa, and son, Dru.
