Casey Ikeda

Coach

Ivy League Regular-Season Championships -- 1 (2019) Ivy League Tournament Championships - 2 (2019, 2022) 9 All-Americans coached 16 All-Ivy players coached Casey Ikeda has been an assistant coach and defensive coordinator for Penn men's lacrosse since 2017, after he spent the 2016 season as the program's Director of Operations. Ikeda's most recent success came in the form of Brendan Lavelle, who graduated in 2025 following a standout career that saw him earn first-team All-America honors and three first-team All-Ivy recognitions. Lavelle was the fifth overall pick in the PLL's 2025 College Draft, going to the defending champion Utah Archers. Ikeda's defense was a major reason Penn went 11-5 in 2022, winning the Ivy League Tournament and advancing to the NCAA Championship quarterfinal round for the second time in as many opportunities. Four of his players earned All-Ivy recognition, while SSDM Piper Bond was named third-team USILA All-America and defenseman Lavelle, LSM BJ Farrare and GK Patrick Burkinshaw all received honorable mention recognition. The 2020 season saw the Quakers go 2-3 before all 2020 Ivy League spring sports were canceled on Wednesday, March 11 due to a nationwide outbreak of coronavirus COVID-19. During the year, Penn scored victories over No. 10 Duke and Saint Joseph’s.   Ikeda was part of his first Ivy League championship as a coach with the Quakers in 2019, when Penn went 12-4 and earned their highest-ever national ranking (No. 2). The Red and Blue tied the program record with its 12 wins and also tied a prgoram mark with 12 consecutive wins while reaching the NCAA Championship quarterfinals for the first time since 1988. Ikeda's defense featured a pair of USILA All-Americans in close defender Mark Evanchick and goalkeeper Reed Junkin who both were named third-team All-Americans after first-team All-Ivy seasons. Ikeda -- who grew up in nearby Berwyn, Pa. -- came to Penn following a standout playing career at the University of Maryland, where he was captain in 2015 when the Terps advanced to the NCAA Division I national championship game. Ikeda was a first-team USILA All-America and a USILA Scholar All-America as a senior, when he was also named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. A member of four Terp teams that advanced to the NCAA’s Championship Weekend, Ikeda ended his career with 50 consecutive starts. At the end of the year, Ikeda was one of just 20 students inducted into the exclusive Maryland Medallion Society, which recognizes students for their contributions to the University’s general advancement, for displaying outstanding leadership, and leadership in campus activities. He graduated from UM with a bachelor’s degree in Family Science and was a Dean’s List student three times. Ikeda played three years in Major League Lacrosse, spending time with Florida (2015), Atlanta (2016) and Charlotte (2017).
