Mike Schmidt

Head Coach

Schmidt arrived at Redlands from Oneonta State in New York, where he worked with the track & field and cross country programs. Since 2003, Schmidt worked at Oneonta State, originally as the Associate Head Coach of Track & Field and Cross Country. After three successful years, he became the Head Coach of Track & Field and continued to work as an assistant coach with the cross country programs. During his tenure with the Red Dragons, Schmidt coached 17 All-American performances among nine student-athletes to go along with three conference team championships, 49 individual titles and 14 relay championships. Beyond his coaching responsibilities, Schmidt offers excellent experience as an instructor in health and physical education. Prior to Oneonta, Schmidt worked with the pole-vaulters and throwers at Frostburg State University in Maryland. He also moved up the ranks from assistant coach to head coach of track & field and cross country at SUNY New Paltz. He helped improve the mens cross country program from seventh place to second place in his first year as Head Coach. Schmidt remains committed as a student of the sport and avidly attends teaching seminars to further his knowledge. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist and holds USATF Level III certification for jumps. As a student, Schmidt completed his Bachelor of Science from Plattsburgh State University while competing in track & field. Currently, Schmidt resides in Redlands. In his free time, he enjoys staying involved in the sport by competing in the decathlon. Recently, he posted a fourth-place finish at the 2007 New York Empire State Games.

She transferred to Aurora University (IL) and later completed her degree in Coaching Youth Sport Development. As a Spartan, March contributed to a combined six conference championships in cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field. Individually, she hauled in 10 NACC All-Conference awards, ranging from the 800 Meters to the 10K. She also reset six school records and ranked among the top-10 times in multiple events at Aurora. In the classroom, March was nominated for the 2015 SHAPE America Outstanding Major on behalf of her academic standing, service to the campus and community, and professional involvement. She also landed on the Dean's List throughout her tenure at Aurora form 2012 to 2015. Furthermore, she served on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and was selected to attend the 2015 NCAA Career in Sports Forum at the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis. March's career goals include furthering her knowledge through her assistant coaching position and eventually becoming a head coach at the collegiate level. Equipped with a vast appreciation for the sport of running, March enjoys learning more about it and sharing that information with student-athletes to help them advance in their athletic and life endeavors. Dominic Lopez

Assistant Coach

After an excellent career as a student-athlete for the Bulldogs, Dominic Lopez returned to the University of Redlands in the summer of 2016 to begin his duties as the graduate assistant for Track & Field and Cross Country. A year later, the opportunity presented itself for Lopez to apply for and receive the programs' full-time assistant position that also serves as the recruiting coordinator for all four teams.  At Redlands Dominic works with Cross Country and Track & Field (Middle Distance - Horizontal Jumps) and has coached a trio of both Mid-Distance and Horizontal Jump Champions.  He has also coached a Mid-Distance runner in the 800m at the National Championships as they earned All-American recognition.     A native of Las Vegas, Nevada, Lopez attended the U of R from 2011 through 2015, graduating with degrees in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He contributed to the track & field program for four years and the cross country squad for two.  Throughout his career, he collected various individual honors and top finishes for middle distance events.  He was a two-time All-SCIAC competitor in the 800 Meters.  He also dabbled in the 1500 Meters, earning a pair of first-place showings over his career, while making significant contributions to the Bulldogs’ 4x400 Relay that won four races during his senior season. In cross country, Lopez was voted “Top Newcomer” by his teammates after the conclusion of his first season in 2013. Academically, Lopez consistently impressed, becoming a four-time Redlands Scholar-Athlete and landing on the Dean’s List on multiple occasions.  He also garnered SCIAC All-Academic Team recognition for both cross country and track & field, and was deemed a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Individual in 2014. Lopez currently holds a USTFCCCA technical certification and a Level I certification through USA Track & Field (USATF). Prior to returning to Redlands, Lopez worked as a research technician at Loma Linda University. An interesting fact about Lopez is that he won the Mr. Redlands competition in 2013. In his free time, he enjoys running and watching movies. Lopez is extremely excited to help guide student-athletes in personal development and athletic achievement. He has aspirations of becoming a head track and field coach one day.
