Tatum Etchegoyen-Springer

Head Coach

Tatum Etchegoyen-Springer was hired as the school’s first women’s flag football head coach in February 2025. Etchegoyen-Springer comes to Redlands after serving as Edison High School’s flag football head coach and club team Conquer SoCal’s coach from 2023-25. While at Edison she organized season schedules, planned practices, and created strategies for team resource use. She led them to their first California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) semifinal. With Conquer SoCal she coached 10u-18u teams and coordinated tournaments. She won the 10u NFL Raider Reginal Championship in 2024. She graduated from the University of East London with a bachelors of honor in 2021. She graduated with second class upper division honors with a degree in criminology and criminal justice. The athletics department announced in August 2024 that it will sponsor women’s flag football at the NCAA Division III level in 2025-26.

Joey Mariani

Head Coach

On staff since 2007, Joey Mariani became the Bulldogs' Associate Head Coach in July 2021, while maintaining his responsibilities as Director of Football Operations and Defensive Coordinator.  As of the 2017 season, he began overseeing the linebackers.Since becoming the defensive coordinator, Mariani has helped the team capture two Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) titles and make three trips to the NCAA Championships. As of the 2017 season, the Bulldogs have garnered 49 All-SCIAC defensive players, including four defensive players of the year in Mitch Shepherd (2016), Steven Locke Jr. (2013), Jordan Garcia (2012), and Mike Nicolini (2010), under his guidance.  Furthermore, Mariani has helped develop a pair of AFCA All-Americans in Nicolini (2010) and Daniel Gonzales (2017).Based on scoring defense, the Bulldogs have ranked among the top two in the conference in SCIAC games each of Mariani’s eight years (2010-2017).  Furthermore, Redlands led NCAA Division III in red zone defense in 2013 and ranked first in turnover margin in 2014.Mariani arrived at Redlands with over 17 years of coaching experience, holding stints at Garey High School in Pomona as the head football coach for six years and defensive coordinator for three years. More recently, he served as the defensive coordinator at his alma mater of Fontana High School. Earlier in his career, Mariani coached the defensive line and linebackers for the legendary Dick Bruich at FHS.This native of Norristown, Pennsylvania, earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Cal State University San Bernardino. In high school, Mariani helped guide the Steelers of Fontana High School to the 1987 National Football Championship. Currently, he is the only person in Fontana High School history to win a CIF Championship as a player (1987) and as a coach (1989).Mariani’s life goal is to simply have fun while earning a living. His desire to impact the lives of young people through coaching and teaching makes this an easy goal for him to achieve.In his spare time, Mariani enjoys bass fishing and hunting. He and his wife, Kristen, have a daughter, Gianna.  They make their home in Yucaipa.

Jim Good

Head Coach

After more than 10 years of experience with the Bulldog football program, Jim Good was named the head coach in July 2021.  He had served as the Associate Head Coach since 2012 while maintaining his responsibilities of Offensive Coordinator, Quarterbacks Coach, and Recruiting Coordinator, which began the previous year.  In his first season at the helm, he led the team to the SCIAC Championship and an NCAA bid while heading up the SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year. Since Good's arrival, the Bulldogs have won three Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) championships, finished second five times, and advanced to the NCAA Championships on four occasions.  Among the team’s many accolades, Redlands has produced six quarterbacks, six running backs, and eight wide receivers who have garnered All-SCIAC selections with his oversight of the offense.  During the 2022 season the Bulldogs got off to a slow start, beginnng the season 1-5. The Bulldogs then won two-straight, including a 27-24 come-from-behind, overtime win at home against eventual SCIAC Champions Pomona-Pitzer. Despite the struggles of a 4-6 season, they did throw the eighth fewest interceptions with only seven picks. In 2021, Redlands won the SCIAC Championship following a perfect 6-0 conference record. They finished 8-2 overall following a first-round loss in the NCAA Playoffs. The Bulldogs scored the sixth most points (360) and the third most touchdowns (48) in a single-season. In 2019, the Bulldogs reset their own scoring record with 445 points, which included 51 touchdowns and 4,576 yards of total offense for the second-most in school history in each category. Good arrived at Redlands after a four-year stint as the head coach at Hamline University in Saint Paul, Minnesota. While overseeing the squad, he led the Pipers to their best finish since the 1997 season and increased the roster size by 30 players. In addition, Good played an instrumental role in improving the team's overall GPA, revealing his commitment to the Division III student-athlete experience. In addition, this member of the American Football Coaches Association brings significant coaching experience from his time at Texas Lutheran University, Illinois College, and Linfield University (OR). While at Texas Lutheran, he served as the associate head coach with responsibilities as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. During his final three seasons, the TLU offense finished as high as 10th in the nation in passing offense while breaking school records in various offensive categories. In his first season as the offensive coordinator, the team finished with a 7-3 record, which was the most wins in over 20 years. He garnered similar success at Illinois College, helping players reset the school's single-season passing and rushing records. This Washington native completed his Master of Science in Exercise and Sport Science at Oregon State University after earning a Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science from Linfield. While competing for the Wildcat football team, this four-year letter-winner garnered all-conference honors as a senior running back. Outside of coaching, Good enjoys fishing, reading, biking, and spending time with his family, which includes his wife, Robyn, and two children.

Jamar Johnson

The University of Redlands football program is pleased to announce the addition of Jamar Johnson as Assistant Football Coach. A Southern California native from Los Angeles/Anaheim and a decorated wide receivers specialist, Johnson arrives with a proven track record of player development at every level of collegiate football — from junior college to Division I FCS. Johnson most recently served as Wide Receivers Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Truman State University (March 2025–Present), where in his very first season he helped the Bulldogs earn their first postseason playoff berth in 31 years and coached three All-Conference honorees. Prior to Truman State, he spent nearly four years (July 2021–March 2025) as Wide Receivers Coach and Transfer Portal Coordinator at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA), one of the nation's premier FCS programs. A Proven Developer of NFL Talent During his tenure at UCA, Johnson mentored Malachi Henry — a converted defensive back — into a 2024 All-American and Jerry Rice Award Finalist as a redshirt freshman. He also played a key role in developing Tyler Hudson, who earned All-Southland, All-ASUN, and All-ACC recognition after transferring to Louisville and was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in 2022. Additionally, Johnson helped shape the careers of ShunDerrick Powell (2024 Walter Payton Award Finalist), David Walker (2025 NFL Draft / Reese's Senior Bowl selection), and Lujuan Winningham (2021 Hula Bowl / Jacksonville Jaguars selection). Johnson's professional development experience extends beyond the college game. In the summer of 2022, he was selected as a Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellow with the Los Angeles Rams, working directly with then-Associate Head Coach Thomas Brown on all aspects of offensive coaching and operations. Elite Recruiter with National Reach Johnson is an accomplished recruiter with ties throughout California, Florida, Texas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Oklahoma, Ohio, Arkansas, Missouri, and Illinois. At UCA, he played a major role in building the program's 2022 recruiting class, which ranked #1 in the ASUN Conference and fourth nationally, and included athletes who had previously played in the Pac-12 and SEC. Earlier in his career at Iowa Western Community College, he oversaw a 2019 recruiting class ranked #1 in the nation — headlined by the country's top JUCO prospect. A Coaching Career Built from the Ground Up Before his work at the FCS level, Johnson built a strong foundation in the JUCO ranks as Wide Receivers Coach, JV Head Coach, and National Recruiting Coordinator at Iowa Western Community College (Dec. 2018–July 2021), where the Reivers captured the Graphic Bowl Championship and achieved a top-five national ranking. He also served as Wide Receivers Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Dodge City Community College and, in December 2018, stepped in as Interim Head Coach. Johnson began his full-time collegiate coaching career at San Jose State University (Feb. 2016–Jan. 2018) as a Graduate Assistant Offensive Skill Coach, helping develop future NFL tight end Josh Oliver, who was selected 69th overall by the Baltimore Ravens in 2019. His coaching roots trace back to his alma mater, the University of La Verne, where he was recognized as the 2015 SCIAC Wide Receivers Coach of the Year after guiding the Leopards to their first winning season in a decade and an undefeated SCIAC record. Off campus, Johnson has served as a Wide Receivers Development Coach with "Armed & Dangerous Football" — the nation's premier quarterback and receiver training program — since 2009, working under CEO Steve Calhoun to prepare NFL draftees including Sterling Shepard, Corey Coleman, and Tajae Sharpe. Education Johnson holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration (2014) and a Master of Science in Leadership & Management (2016) from the University of La Verne, where he was a four-year starter at wide receiver and earned the prestigious Leopard Senior Blanket Award. He also earned a Master of Arts in Counseling Education (2017) from San Jose State University. In 2024, he was selected as one of just 25 coaches nationwide to participate in the NFL/NCAA Coaches Academy.

Mike McFarland

Michael (Mike) McFarland joins the Bulldogs football coaching staff as an assistant coach who will coach the tight ends for the 2022 season.McFarland comes to the Bulldogs program with two decades of coaching experience that dates to 2002 when he began his coaching career as an assistant at Occidental. After four years with the Tigers, he spent time as an assistant coach at Minnesota State Moorhead (2006-07), Missouri Western (2007-09), and Missouri S&T (2014-18).During the previous four seasons, he was at Redlands High School (2018-21) where McFarland was the head coach and taught social science. Other head coaching stops include Pasadena High School (2009) and Temple City High School (2010-14).Along with his time at Occidental, McFarland comes from a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) background as he graduated from Cal Lutheran University in 1997 with a BA in Social Science.McFarland currently works at Citrus Valley High School where he is a social science teacher, the same job he has held while at Redlands High School, Temple City High School, and Pasadena High School. He is married to Tiffany and has three children.

Jacob Barlage

Assistant Coach

Jacob Barlage joins the University of Redlands football coaching staff as the Running Backs Coach, bringing a wealth of playing experience and emerging coaching expertise to the Bulldogs program. A proven leader both on and off the field, Barlage combines his extensive quarterback background with specialized running backs coaching experience to mentor the next generation of student-athletes. Playing Career Barlage's distinguished playing career began at Riverside City College in 2019, where he established himself as one of the premier junior college quarterbacks in the nation. Leading the Tigers to a CCCAA Championship, he was named both the CCCAA Championship Game MVP and CCCAA Quarterfinal Game MVP, while earning First Team All-Conference honors. His record-breaking performance included setting both school and California State single-game records with eight passing touchdowns, earning him recognition as a 2020 Junior College Pre-Season All-American. Following his exceptional junior college career, Barlage transferred to the University of Nevada, Reno, where he continued his development from 2020-2022. During his time with the Wolf Pack, he showcased his dual-threat capabilities, including recording the team's longest rush of the 2022 season with a 37-yard sprint. Barlage concluded his playing career at Northwood University in Midland, Michigan, where he served as a two-year starter from 2023-2024. His leadership qualities were recognized when he was named Team Captain for the 2024 season. On the field, he broke the school's single-season passing yards record in 2023 and earned GMAC Conference Player of the Week honors twice – in Week 3 of 2023 and Week 1 of 2024. Coaching Experience Barlage's transition into coaching began during his playing career at Valley View High School in Moreno Valley, California, in 2019, where he served as a volunteer varsity football coach. Working as a direct assistant to the head coach, he gained valuable experience in game planning and in-game communication. His specialized running backs coaching experience came during the winter of 2021 at Prime Time Polynesian in Chino Hills, California, where he served as Assistant Football Coach and Running Backs Coach. In this role, he was instrumental in weekly game plan preparation and implementation, while also conducting virtual film sessions with running backs to analyze practice and game footage. Education Barlage earned his Master's in Organizational Leadership at Northwood University this year, building upon his Bachelor's of Science: Community Health with a Kinesiology major from the University of Nevada, Reno, which he completed in 2023. His educational background in kinesiology provides him with a strong foundation in human movement and athletic performance, complementing his practical football experience. Personal A California native from Moreno Valley, Barlage brings a deep understanding of West Coast football and a commitment to developing student-athletes both athletically and academically. His unique combination of high-level playing experience across multiple positions and specialized coaching background makes him an invaluable addition to the Redlands football family.

Ric Lucore Jr.

Assistant Coach

Ric Lucore Jr. joined the University of Redlands football staff as an assistant coach in the spring of 2009. His responsibilities include working with the offensive line and serving as the assistant director of football operations. Lucore is no stranger to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) as he competed on the Whittier College football team from 1992-94 and played one year of baseball for the Poets in 1996. After graduating from Whittier, he quickly ascended into the coaching ranks, taking a job with Pioneer High School as the offensive line and defensive line coach. In 1997, he moved over to Lynwood High School and worked in the same capacity for the Knights. From 1998-2001, Lucore worked with both the offensive and defensive line at San Bernardino High School before taking a job at Arroyo Valley High School where he gained a variety of experience. At one time or another, he served as the offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator, and also worked with the offensive line, quarterbacks, running backs and linebackers during his five-year stint. This Riverside native moved from coaching high school football to working at the college level in 2006 when he took a position at San Bernardino Valley College as a running backs coach. His duties evolved in 2007 when he became the offensive line and run coordinator, and in 2008, he became the program’s offensive coordinator. Currently, he is a physical education teacher at Arroyo Valley. A “student of the game,” Lucore hopes to continue excelling as a coach and teacher while obtaining knowledge through instructing others. He remains active in his professional organizations, which include the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and the California Association of Directors of Activities (CADA). In addition, this Chicago Bears fan enjoys golfing and spending time with family. Lucore received his Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education, Health, Recreation, and Dance from Whittier in 1996 and obtained his Clear Teaching Credential from National University in 2002. He and his wife, Vicki, reside in East Highland with their four children.

Terrell Davis

The Bulldogs welcomed the contributions of Terrell Davis as an assistant coach, specifically working with the corners, in the summer of 2021.  He offers significant high-school coaching and collegiate playing experience.  Davis competed for the University of Cincinnati and the University of La Verne as a defensive back, culminating in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) championship with the Leopards.  He served as the head freshmen football coach at Rancho Cucamonga High School for one season before taking on the responsibilities of the defensive backs coach at Montclair High School.  His most recent venture put him at Los Osos High School, where he guided the defensive backs and worked as the head track & field coach.

Eric Acciani

The University of Redlands Head Football Coach Jim Good announced Eric Acciani as the Bulldogs' new offensive coordinator (OC) in February 2024. Acciani comes to Redlands after spending the 2024 season with NCAA Division I Football Championship Series (FCS) Tennessee Tech University. Prior to that he was the OC and quarterbacks coach for Division II Mercyhurst University. At Tennessee Tech he helped them win their first conference championship since 2011 and only their second since 1975. He helped the Golden Eagles improve from 301 yards per game to 327. Most notably they improved by 40 yards on the ground as they ranked 41st in the country in rushing yards per game, 39 spots higher than 2023. While with Mercyhurst Acciani helped the Lakers increase their scoring by 25 percent from 2022 to 2023. Their quarterback finished 12th in the country in completions per game, 19th in passing yards, 22nd in passing touchdowns, and the Lakers converted 3rd downs at the 29th highest clip in the country. Acciani graduated from California State University, Fullerton in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in history. While there he spent time as the OC for Diamond Bar High School and El Toro High School. Following a stop in Germany as the OC for the Allgäu Comets in 2015, he was a graduate assistant at Old Dominion University. He worked with the offensive line and tight ends and spent two seasons as an offensive quality control coach. He earned his Masters of Science in education in 2020. He final job prior to his time at Mercyhurst was at Virgina Union University (VUU) from 2021-22. He worked as the quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator. VUU ranked second in passing offense in the conference and first in third down conversion percentage.

David Lord

Coach

David Lord assumed the role of Recruiting Coordinator on July 1, 2021, which adds to his responsibilities as Special Teams Coordinator and Defensive Line Coach, which he began in 2016.  He previously coached with the Bulldogs from 2009 to 2011, working directly with the offensive line and as the team’s recruiting coordinator.  Previously, Lord served as the Offensive Line Coach at Millsaps College, which is an NCAA Division III school in Jackson, Mississippi.  During the 2013 season, the Millsaps offensive line allowed only seven sacks to rank 14th in the nation and help the offense to surpass 2,000 rushing yards. In the previous season, the Millsaps offensive line allowed only six sacks to sit seventh in the nation and enable the offense to run for more than 1,400 yards.While at Redlands, Lord contributed to the Bulldog offense that rushed for more than 1,000 yards, with his O-line allowing only six sacks in the entire season, which was ranked first in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and 13th in the nation.  This helped the team to achieve an 8-1 record and a second-place finish in the conference.He also completed his Master of Arts in Higher Education during his time with the Bulldogs.From 2005 to 2007, Lord was an Assistant Football Coach at Jurupa Valley High School in California. There he was part of a rushing attack that was ranked Top-50 in the nation and a top five in California.Lord started out his collegiate football career as a redshirt freshman at San Jose State University in2004 and then transferred to play for Coach Bill Brown at Riverside Community College in 2005. While at RCC, Lord shined as one of the team’s top offensive linemen, leading the team to a share of the Mission Conference American Division Championship in 2005. He then transferred back into NCAA Division I in 2007, completing his Bachelor of Science in Sociology at Northern Arizona University while playing offensive lineman for the Lumberjacks.Off the field, he made an equally impressive impact, excelling both as a leader and as a student. RCC named him a team captain in 2006, and that same year, he garnered Academic All-State laurels. In addition, he was an eight-time scholar-athlete at Eisenhower High School.
