Sean Hansen
Head Coach
Sean Hansen was named the Head Coach for the University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team this season after serving as an assistant coach since August 2022. Championship Leadership Sean is a dedicated lacrosse coach with over a decade of experience developing championship-caliber programs and student-athletes at the collegiate and club levels. Formerly served as the Women's Assistant Lacrosse Coach at the University of Redlands since 2022, Sean has been instrumental in recruiting record-breaking classes, coordinating defensive strategy, and elevating team performance to historic milestones including the program's first-ever sweeps of Occidental and Chapman. With a proven track record as a head coach at Linfield College, Sierra Nevada College, and LaGrange College, Sean brings comprehensive expertise in all aspects of program management—from strategic recruiting and player development to budget management and fundraising. Her work has generated over $36,000 in fundraising support and consistently delivered year-over-year improvements in key performance metrics. As the former Girls Lacrosse Director at Lacrosse Northwest, Sean coordinated extensive programming including 25+ annual camps and clinics, managed staffs of up to 20 coaches, and directed seven competitive travel teams. Her leadership of the Rose City lacrosse tournament showcased her ability to execute large-scale events while maintaining excellence in athlete development and family communication. Educational Excellence | Athletic Background Sean graduated from the University of Redlands in 2010, earning a B.A. in Exercise and Sport Science with a minor in Psychology and was a Johnston Student. During her Bulldog playing career, she played in 40 games with 39 career ground balls, 17 caused turnovers, and made one appearance in goal. She was also a dual sport athlete competing on the Track & Field team as a Javelin thrower and holds the No. 10 Javelin mark in the University of Redlands record books. Coaching Philosophy As a coach, my mission is to develop student-athletes not only as players but also as individuals who are prepared to succeed in all aspects of life. I believe in creating an environment where growth, teamwork, accountability, and fun are central to everything we do. Each challenge and setback present an opportunity for players to grow. I encourage student-athletes to embrace the process of continuous improvement, step out of their comfort zones, and develop resilience. Winning is a byproduct of what we do, the real goal is to help athletes become better, both on and off the field. Success, to me, is rooted in collaboration. Building strong relationships with teammates, coaches, and the broader community is just as essential as any skill or strategy. Accountability plays a key role in this, as I hold myself, my staff, and my players to the highest standards, whether on the field, in the classroom, or in our everyday actions. While hard work and discipline are important, sports should also be fun. I want every player to leave the field feeling joy and pride in their effort, knowing they are part of something meaningful. Ultimately, my goal is for each athlete to leave our program not only better at lacrosse but also better prepared for life, with lasting connections and memories that extend far beyond their time at Redlands. Professional Development A member of the inaugural IWLCA ASPIRE class (2025) and a USA Lacrosse Coaches Trainer, Sean holds both Level 1 and Level 2 certifications. She earned her M.A. in Teaching from LaGrange College and B.A. in Creating the Ultimate Athlete: The Mind/Body Connection from the University of Redlands, reflecting her holistic approach to developing well-rounded student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom.
