Jon Molz

Assistant Coach

Molz has helped guide the middle distance runners to new levels of success while also contributing to the development of the sprinters, throwers, and long distance runners. During the 2013 indoor season, Molz oversaw 11 all-conference performances in the middle distance events, an Atlantic 10 meet record in the 4x800m, and two new school records in the 4x400m and Distance Medley Relay. Additionally, Molz helped lead Alyson McGonigle (800m), Taylor Clevinger (1000m), the 4x800m, and the Distance Medley Relay to victory at the Atlantic 10 Championships. During the 2013 outdoor season, Molz oversaw 7 all-conference performances, including a victory by the 4x800m and 3rd-place finishes by Mary Allen (400m), Alyson McGonigle (800m) and Clare Moretz (1500m). Molz also helped coach McGonigle to the first round of the NCAA Championships in the 1500m and Mary Allen and Jade Gregory to the USATF JR National Championships in the 400m. 2014 marked the 12th consecutive year that both the Mens and Womens Cross Country and Track & Field teams were honored as NCAA All-Academic teams; Molz has been a student-athlete, volunteer, or assistant coach for the last ten years of that streak. Prior to working full-time with the Mens and Womens teams, Molz spent three years as a volunteer for the Mens Cross Country and Track & Field programs. During this time, Molz helped guide the men to unprecedented levels of success; highlighted by the teams first-ever Atlantic 10 Conference Championship and 24th-place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in 2010. Andrew Benford (3000m Steeplechase, 2011) and Matt Llano (10,000m 2010) also earned All-American honors while Molz was volunteering. While volunteering with the Spider men, Molz also served as the head coach of the 2011 St. Catherine's School indoor and outdoor track & field teams. In just one year at the helm of the program, his indoor and outdoor squads each won the league and state championships. Led by 14 student-athletes earning All-State honors, the Saints amassed 180 points at the 2011 indoor state championship to establish a new state meet record. At the 2011 Outdoor League of Independent Schools (LIS) Championship, Molz guided 17 different athletes to All-League honors in route to a dominating team victory. For his teams achievements Molz was named LIS Coach of the Year for both indoor and outdoor track & field.   Prior to his coaching career, Molz enjoyed a standout running career with the Spiders from 2004-2008, during which he earned two Atlantic 10 championship titles in indoor track and a total of five all-conference honors between cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. During his senior year, Molz turned in a third-place individual finish to lead the men's cross country team to, at the time, its highest-ever team finish with a second-place showing at the 2007 Atlantic 10 Championship. Molz also qualified for the NCAA East Regional Championship in the 3,000m steeplechase in outdoor track in 2008.
