Benji Wetli

Assistant Coach

Wetli serves as the Dons distance recruiting coordinator as well as assisting in daily operations and coaching of cross country and distance athletes on the track. In 2015, Wetli helped guide the USF women's cross country team to its third trip to the NCAA Championships in program history. Under Wetli's tutelage, the Dons placed three runners on the All-WCC team and All-West Region squad. Weronika Pyzik, Elena Burkard and Charlotte Taylor turned in the highest combined top three performance in USF cross country history at NCAA West Regionals. On the men's side, Alex Short turned in one of the most successfull individual seasons in program history, taking home All-WCC honors, All-West Region honors and earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships.   Wetli, a Decorah, Iowa, native, came to the Hilltop after one season at North Carolina-Greensboro where he coached 10 student-athletes who obtained All-Southern Conference accolades and two women that earned a spot in the 2014 NCAA Preliminary Championship field.   Previous to his season with the Spartans, Wetli served for three seasons on the staff at Iowa State. During Wetlis time in Ames, Iowa, the Cyclones consistently performed as one of the top programs in the nation in both cross country and track and field. Iowa State student-athletes commandeered three individual national championship titles and produced 25 NCAA All-America honorees, 13 Big 12 Conference champions and 98 All-Big 12 Conference award winners during Wetlis three seasons with the program.   The Iowa State womens cross country team took back-to-back conference titles and earned three consecutive NCAA Midwest Regional Championship titles, and finished in seventh place at the NCAA Championships in 2011. The womens indoor track and field team placed ninth at the NCAA Championships in 2011 and took 10th in 2012. In 2013, Wetlis final season with the Cyclones, the squad finished the season in fourth place in the Womens Program of the Year standings.   Wetli, a certified USA Track & Field Level 1 coach, ran collegiately at St. Norbert College (Wisc.), as a cross country and distance athlete. During his time competing for the Green Knights, Wetli was tapped for Academic All-Conference accolades 10 times.   Wetli earned his bachelors in history from St. Norbert in 2010. He continued his studies while serving on the Iowa State coaching staff, obtaining a masters in kinesiology in 2013.Benji Wetli

Laura Huarte

Assistant Coach

Huarte coaches the jumpers, sprinters, and javelin throwers for the Dons.  She has also played a key role in the entire team success culminating seven school records in her event areas and in the programs record number of NCAA qualifiers in 2014.  She is USATF Level I and Level II (Jumps) Certified.  Laura also handles the administrative duties of travel, equipment, and community service. Huarte graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2006 with a degree in business administration - marketing. While at Notre Dame, she was a member of the track and field team where she specialized in both the pole vault and the javelin.  The Fighting Irish were the Big East conference champions in 2006, while Huarte qualified for the Division I NCAA Track and Field All-Mideast Region meet, still holding the school's female javelin record. Also was the Big Easts pole vault champion in 2004.  Laura and her husband, Brian, have one son, Patrick, and they currently reside in Novato, Calif.

Lehman-Winters enters her 14th season in 2016-17 as the head mens and womens cross country and track & field coach at the University of San Francisco. During her tenure, her teams have won five West Coast Conference titles and clinched several at-large berths to the NCAA Cross Country Championships.

Travis Thompson

Coach

Thompson comes to the Dons after spending four seasons at Lane Community College where he most recently served as the associate head coach, and one year at Oregon State as a volunteer assistant. While at Lane, Thompson helped the squad to men's and women's southern regional team championships in 2013, '14, and '16, and coached 36 junior college all-americans. He also mentored two athletes that qualified for the USA Junior Track & Field Championships (Rubie Cordey and Rashad Swank-Jones). Coupled with his stint with the Beavers, Thompson guided his athletes to 42 top-10 marks in school history and seven school records. Along with a solid track record as a coach, Thompson enjoyed an illustrious collegiate running career at track & field powerhouse, Oregon. He was tapped as a two-time NCAA All-American, and earned the 2010 national championship in the indoor distance medley relay where he ran the 800m leg. The two-year captain for the Ducks was a part of two PAC-12 champion teams, and enjoyed three top-five individual performances at the conference meet (4x400m relay: 3rd '09, 5th '10; 800 m 5th '10). The Oregon squad finished third at the 2010 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, with Thompson providing key individual and relay performances. Thompson holds the second-fastest mark in the indoor 600m at Oregon, and the eight-fastest outdoor mark in the 800m with a time of 1:47.6. Starting his collegiate career at Lane, he won the 2007 NWAACC Championship in the 400m. After graduating from the Ducks' program with a degree in sociology, Thompson went on to earn his masters in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University-Irvine. Athletically, he continued to round the track, earning a spot at the 2014 USF Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 800m.Travis Thompson
