Peter Bartlett

Head Coach

Bartlett enters his fourth year as the director of tennis for both the mens and womens programs. His responsibilities include overseeing coaching, player development, recruiting coordination and fundraising. Bartletts association with USF tennis dates back to 1995, when he was hired as an assistant coach under George Yuen. He was promoted to the head coaching position for the 1997-98 season and for the next 16 seasons developed the USF into an upper echelon program in the West Coast Conference. The Dons received their highest national ranking (No. 58) in school history in 2011 and garnered ITA regional rankings 12 times in Bartletts 16 years as head coach, including an all-time high of fifth in 2011. Bartlett mentored four nationally ranked singles and doubles players, including current Dons head coach Pablo Pires De Almeida, along with Joachim Lien, Tommy Tu, Thai Tu and Mason Fuller, Jorgen Arnesen and Asaf Cohen. During his tenure, six players and three doubles teams earned first team All-WCC honors. Pires De Almedia (2004), Thong Tu (2010), and Thai Tu (2012) earned the prestigious ITA Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship Award. Pires De Almeida, Fuller and Philip Riise Hansen earned ATP Tour points during their professional playing careers following their tenure at USF. He was named the WCCs Coach of the Year following the 2003 season after leading the Dons to a third place conference finish. Bartletts players also excelled in the classroom, placing more student-athletes on the WCCs All-Academic team than any other institution in the conference over a 10-year period from 2003-13. Most recently, the men's tennis program was named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team for the 2015-16 season. Along with the team's All-Academic success, five players were named to the ITA's All-Scholar Athletes list.  A tireless fundraiser, Bartlett organized efforts that led to over $1.2 million in contributions and a 92 percent increase in pledges to the mens tennis program. As part of his long commitment to youth tennis, Bartlett was one of three original coaches for the Youth Tennis Advantage (YTA) and East Palo Alto Tennis and Tutoring (EPATT). Along with USF womens coach Hilary Somers, he helped launch the USF Aces Program to promote tennis among San Franciscos inner city youths and is heavily involved and is an active participant in Harper for Kids, which promotes physical education and life skills to grammar school children. Bartlett also served on the NCAA mens tennis selection committee in 2005 and served as chairman of the Northwest Regional committee from 2010-13. In addition to his coaching duties at USF, Bartlett served as the associate head professional at the Olympic Club from 1993-2003. A former standout at the University of Oregon from 1985-89, Bartletts win total in both singles and doubles ranked third on the Ducks all-time list at the end of his career. Following graduation, Bartlett participated on various Open and International Tennis Federation tournaments in the United States and Asia. Bartlett has been involved in various entrepreneurial activities outside of tennis. In 1994, he worked for the Optimum Human Performance Center which developed BioVision, the first system with 3D capabilities to capture biomechanical analysis software now popularized by video makers and movie studios. In 2005, he founded the Ultimate Coaches Network and CollegeSportsCamps.com, a sports camp registration and promotions company which is now part of the ABC Sports Camps Network. Bartlett earned his bachelors of science degree in psychology from the University of Oregon and also minored in business administration. He later earned his masters degree from USFs Sport Management program in 1995. Peter and his wife Shannon reside in Pacifica with their three sons, Jake and identical twin boys Sean and Erik.
