Janice Winslow
Head Coach
Winslow was named the 11th women's tennis coach in Scranton history in August 2013. In two seasons, she has led the Royals to a combined record of 23-12 with a pair of playoff appearances and a Coach of the Year honor in 2015. That season, she piloted the team to a 12-5 record and the no. 2 seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs, where the Royals reached the championship match for the fourth straight season. Four players -- Megan Azzalina, Julia Frattaroli, Nicole Mahaffey and Emily Walsh -- went on to earn first-team All-Landmark Conference honors. In her first season as the Royals head coach in 2013-14, Winslow led the team to its third straight Landmark Conference championship and an 11-7 overall record. Sophomore Emily Walsh earned All-Landmark Conference first-team honors and was named the MVP of the Landmark Conference playoffs. Juniors Megan Azzalina and Nicole Mahaffey also earned second-team all-conference honors. Winslow returned to coaching after leading the womens tennis team at nearby Marywood University in Scranton for 21 seasons from 1986 to 2007. During that time, she became the winningest coach in Marywood athletics history (she now ranks second) by going 199-63 (.760) while posting 20 winning seasons, including 10 seasons of 10-or-more victories. The Pacers won nine Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) titles and two Eastern States Athletic Conference titles under Winslows tutelage. She was PAC Coach of the Year on six occasions and was inducted into the Marywood Athletics Hall of Fame in 2003. Two years earlier, she led the Pacers to a school record-tying 14 victories as part of a nine-season run of 10-or-more victories that spanned from 1997-98 through 2005-06. Winslow started her professional career at The University of Scranton in 1986 when she was hired as Associate Director of Recreational Sports. She served in that capacity until 1997, when she became the Director of Recreational Sports, the title she currently holds. She has also served as an adjunct professor in The Universitys Department of Exercise Science since 1994. She was honored with membership in the Pro Deo et Universitate for 20 years of service at The University in 2005. She received her masters in Human Resources Administration from The University in 1996. Winslow is also a member and active volunteer with the Lupus Foundation of Northeastern Pennsylvania, and was honored as a Northeast Woman in 1998 for her work with the Foundation. A member of the United States Tennis Association, Winslow inherited a program that was coming off back-to-back Landmark Conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2011 and 2012. The title and NCAA bid in 2011 were both firsts for the program, and the Royals achieved another first last spring when they posted their first NCAA Tournament victory by defeating La Roche College, 5-0, in the first round before losing to nationally ranked Johns Hopkins in the second round.
