Evens has been named Midwest Regional Coach of the Year in 2005-06 and 2006-07; MIAC Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2013; and the 2007 State Tournament Coach of the Year. In her first spring season, Evens helped the Tommies reach the 2005 NCAA Championship meet for the second time in school history and place ninth. The Toms were ranked third nationally again in 2007 and placed fifth at nationals, the highest finish in program history. Junior Holly Noble made second-team All-America, was the MIAC meet medalist, and placed eighth at nationals in a field of 111. Freshman Laura Heck tied for 10th at nationals to receive honorable mention All-America. In 2008, the Toms were ranked as high as second in Division III and placed seventh at nationals. Heck and Noble made All-America. The 2009 Toms placed 17th at nationals as Heck missed the meet with an injury. Heck, the MIAC meet medalist, repeated as All-America. In 2013-14, St. Thomas won the MIAC crown by one stroke and finished 12th at nationals. Senior Doyle OBrien finishing fifth in a field of 111 -- her third consecutive NCAA top-10 individual finish. The 2015-16 Tommies were ranked in the top 10 nationally all year and tied for eighth out of 21 teams at the NCAA meet. Sophomore Emily Thul tied for third out of 109 players and earned All-America distinction.   A Grafton, N.D. native, Evens played collegiately for the Minnesota Gophers (1989-93) and received a degree in Communications. She was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team and was a four-time All-Big Ten honoree. She was a head coach and assistant coach at nearby Macalester College for five seasons and an assistant for the Tommie women for two seasons. Before coming to St. Thomas, Evens worked as golf pro at St. Paul's Town & Country Golf Club the previous six years. Evens replaced Cathy Lombritto, who coached St. Thomas for eight seasons after guiding the Tommies to MIAC team championships from 2001-2004.
