Whitt, a native of Hampton, VA, served in a similar capacity at the University of Texas at Tyler in 2003-04. Whitt is a five-time winner of the ASC Coach of the Year Award, four times as men's coach and once as women's coach. In just his first season at UTD, Whitt aided his men's team to the ASC Championship Tournament, and was named co-winner of the ASC Coach of the Year award -- a feat he duplicated in 2007. In 2003, his UT-Tyler team finished as runners-up in the conference tournament and he won the same award at that school. He was later named ASC West Men's Coach of the Year in 2016. Whitt was honored as the ASC Women's Coach of the Year after leading the Comets to an ASC crown in 2013. He also guided the UTD men to a league title in 2013 as both teams made their first ever trips to the NCAA Division III National Tournament. Before UT-Tyler, Whitt served as an assistant mens tennis coach at the College of William & Mary. During his tenure, he helped the Tribe reach a Top 40 national ranking. Whitt was also an assistant coach for both the men and women at Colgate University, another Division I university. Whitt earned his Bachelor's degree in political science and philosophy from UT-Tyler.
